  • Intel I7 2700K Temperature worries.

    Hello there.

I just got my Intel I7 2700K yesterday, running at 3.8 Ghz.
I'm currently using the stock fan.

I'm a bit worried about the temperatures.

My idle temperatures are 33C-37C, but as soon as I open a game the temperatures jumps to 65-70 instantly.
And as soon as I close the game down they drop down to around 40C instantly as well.

    Is that any normal?

I've both tried with SpeedFan, and Realtemp and the result is the same.

Okay, I've just tried to run a Torture Test in Prime95.
After 20 Seconds it showed 85C, I stopped as i won't risk anything.
But oddly as soon as I stop the test it jumps down to 40C Instantly.

Another odd thing is that core 4 is around 6C-7C higher than the other cores.

It's normal, the sudden drop to 35/40c is when it enters power saving, using low volts and CPU speed, its advised not to go above 72c on sb,and Intel stock cooler isn't very good, esp for stress testing,do your research and buy a good quality aftermarket cooler

Any coolers you can recommend? I'm currently looking on a Cooler Master Hyper 212 Evo.

From what I've read and seen the corsair sealed water units are good,h80 h100,that air cooler is ok too,top air coolers are the noctua nh d14 and thermalright silver arrow, but those are huge in size

The cooler you mentioned should get you to 4.5ghz+ easily and at stock clocks will be a massive improvement

As for now the water cooling is out of my budget, I'll stick to the Cooler Master :) Thank you very much for the help.

Yes the hyper will be fine, the intel stock cooler will be fine to aslong as you don't overclock or stress test with it,its rare you will stress CPU to 100% so gaming and normal usage will be fine on stock cooler

Re: Intel I7 2700K Temperature worries.

With you computer turned off, unplug the power supply from the electrical outlet.
Check to see if all four heatsink push-pins are locked to the motherboard by pulling each one straight up, one at a time.
It sounds like your heatsink is not fully seated.

I had the same thought, I've tried to unplug it and plug it on again. Same result.
