Anyone remember the 486 days when AMD was the chip to avoid?

There was indeed 486-25 Mhz, which was released at about the same time as 33 Mhz version.

Of all the 486s probably the rarest is the 486-50 which had (back them) a whooping 50 Mhz bus and I think it was quicker than 486 DX2/66 (with only 33 bus, but it could be overclocked to DX2/80, well at least my old AMD 486 could :)

Problem with the True DX [486 DX50's] was that they all mostly had ISA buses and 30 pin SIMMS while the DX 33's and DX2/66's were easier to find with VLB and PCI buses on the motherboard, along with 72 pin SIMMS.

AMD had the ultimate 386 at 40Mhz after Intel was into the 486. AMD ended the 486 days with the ultimate 486, the 133Mhz. They ended the pentium one series with the ultimate, the K2550+. The same will be said for the pentium3, the Athlon 1.4Ghz Thunderbird. It is possible they end with the ultimate during the time of the pentium4, but only after Intel has moved on to somthing else. :cheers:
