  • Type of ram for AMD64 3200+?

Hi all, been reading posts on newegg about the AMD64 3200+. Looks like the popular setup with this proc is the asus K8V deluxe mobo. The thing that suprised me is that people are using PC-3500 ram and higher. Are they going to net bigger performance gains with ram higher than the mobo supports? will they be able to OC more? can someone please clear this up for me?

    Thanks in advance.

No, stick with the fastest timings possible in 3200/3500 memory.

Ok thats what I thought. Iv'e heard that there is no benifit to using ram that runs faster than the mobo supports. How does the 64's fsb work anyway???? I know it runs at like 1600mhz:confused: How?

      p.s. I just noticed, I'm not a tweaktown noob anymore:woot:

The Athlon64's FSB is an 800MHz hypertransport link which is suited to PC3200 at stock speeds but if ya overclockin' then PC3500 is best.

It's 200x4 (800) for the HT bus, and soon moving to 200x5 (1000).

And it doesn't matter if its rated for 3200 or 3500, they will both overclock the same if they are made from the same memory.

most all 3500 memory is really nothing more then 3200 memory that tested at the faster[ddr443] speed settings... after watching good 3200 cas 2 memory [twin] go above 250 dollars i went to mushkin 3500 mem for $ 201....
I'm running mushkin3500 at cas 2-2-2-6 fsb201 and loving it

also remember for overclocking you are limited by the amd chip you got,mb bios, and cooling......... GL HF

G13, your also pretty low on your timings becuase your mem is meant to run at 434 (217) mhz. and your runnin it at 401.

Im running 1/2 a gig of Corsair XMS PC3200 @ 186 mhz [CL2, 2, 2, 6t] mobo limited. I have gotten up to 195 fsb on this KT400 mobo, but not enough vcore...

back on topic. i would say, stick to pc3200/3500 for now. you dont really need anything higher. i seriously doubt you'll get above 230 fsb anyway.
