  • Athlon 64 pricing..

Hi all, was looking on Newegg just now and I noticed that the Athlon 64 3200 is only 270.00 for OEM. did the price drop because the FX came out? Oh yea, whats the difference between OEM and Retail anyways? Why is Oem allways cheaper?

    Thx in advance guys.

The price dropped because the A64 3400+ is now on the market.
The difference between OEM and retail is that the retail version comes with a HSF and the OEM doesn't.

Does HSF stand for HeatSink and Fan?

Also, sometimes the OEM version will only come with a 90 day warranty or so, and the retail will have 3 years (in AMD's case). Not sure if newegg gives 3 yr warranties on OEM procs, but itd be worth a call to find out unless someone else knows for sure, I always buy retail procs, cuz the extra 5 bucks for a spare heatsink and long warranty is worth it. The retail barton heatsink thats coming with my new proc is probably goin to go on a 9700 Pro VPU im about to order :)
