Been doing on the few I have done trial scans on, tiff image matching. Sounds like you know what you are doing. I will be waiting for your email on when best to purchase. When I down load, send to C drive or E drive? I will probably need two scanners, one, probably Epson V something, and one for doing 11x14. I will need to do negatives along with the photos. I guess save to a disc?
If you can assist again, will need assistance with software which you are doing. Then best scanning settings, to software, then to storage on computer, then transfer many photos to a good blu ray, or?

I haven't worked with slides for a long time so you will need teach yourself by using web tutorials that give you recommendations. Keep in mind that the high end image editing software programs have very sophisticated image retouching features that can eliminate most dust spots, dirt, stains, scratched or creased images and with enough practice you can correct many exposure errors and/or color problems. Negatives can easily turned into positives.

You will need to develop a workflow procedure. When I download digital images from my camera, all of the images are put in a master folder that has many sub-folders where the images are sorted by date or subject matter. I never edit any of these images in the master folder because I want to keep the originals just in case. When I want to edit a photo, I copy the original to a working folder and change the file type to one of the lossless file formats. When I'm done editing an image, I copy this final image to a Completed master folder which has numerous sub folders. It might be slightly faster if these folders are all on your raid 0 boot drive.

I have several 3TB hard drives for all of my backups from my system and I also backup all of my original photos and the completed photos. The 3TB hard drives are only connected to my system when I'm backing up the files. BTW, I have three backup hard drives, where each of these hard drives is a backup of the other backup drives. In a perfect world we would all have an off site backup just in case something catastrophic happens to your computer system or your house.

Start with downloading the 30 day free trial of Zoner Photo Studio Pro 18 and practice, practice, practice. Their website has some excellent tutorials that will help you come up to speed. Zoner tech support quickly sent me an auto-reply email that said "Within a short time I or one of my teammates will contact you to answer your query" where I asked if they discount the software price.

The On1 Photo 10 software is an even more sophisticated image editing program with many features comparable to working with the main Photoshop program and Lightroom. Naturally the learning curve with On1 Photo 10 is more involved.

I will try your software, will it be compatible with Windows 10, when I do the free upgrade. I have carbonite, that should be backing up everything I do. In the end, putting them on long lasting discs the best? Or just hold on external drives. With your suggested software, it does not make a difference where the images are from, still camera, video camera, scanner, whatever?
Thanks again. If you have experts in this area, I would like to hear from them. Just want to take my old stuff and keep them using the best quality for posterity. If anyone will ever care.

Zoner Photo Studio 18 is compatible with windows 10.

Cloud backup is one good source and backing up to optical drives is also good, but I'm not sure how long optical discs last as I think that several years ago it was said that the life of optical discs might only be 10 -30 years, even if they are not used regularly.

You can search the web for written and video tutorials for Zoner, On1 and Adobe products; that's where I find all of the experts. The easiest way to start is at the Zoner website. You will be amazed at what the higher end image editors can do. Don't get overwhelmed with the learning curve, as you will find that the 80 20 rule applies, where 80% of what you need to do will only require 20% of the program's features. Focus on the basic editing features, and later on you can learn how to easily replace the sky or the background in a photo, add or remove foreground objects, etc.

We will never know who might appreciate our photographs in the future .... one of our descendants .... or maybe complete strangers. I'd love to find a collection of photographs from 40, 60 or 100 years ago, even if I didn't know who the original owner was.

Homework assignment for you:
Do a web search using: best way to scan slide film and see what the experts suggest.

If you want larger photographs I wonder if the following setup would work best:

Buy a decent, lower mid range camera kit that comes with a kit lens.
A camera that can take photos using raw format will provide the highest quality photographs.

Buy a good, used slide projector and projection screen.

Now you can project each slide on to the screen where you can capture each photo using the camera's highest resolution and fill the frame.

With a high quality raw photo you can easily adjust the white balance in the image editing program.

Your photographer friend can probably help you test this technique before you go out and buy any equipment.

A couple of years ago I bought a brand new, 2011 model Olympus E-PL3 camera and kit lens from Newegg for $220.
I later spent $119 to buy a 40 - 150mm kit lens to supplement the original 14 - 42mm kit lens.
These two lenses are similar to 35mm DSLR lenses that cover the 28 - 84mm and 80 - 300mm range.
For $300 you can buy a new Olympus E-PL6 that comes with a kit lens.
Pansonic also sells MFT (micro four thirds) cameras similar to the Olympus MFT models.
The MFT sensor size is about 225 mm² which is much larger than most point and shoot cameras with their 28mm² sensor.
There is a huge difference in picture quality with an MFT camera versus a point and shoot camera when they both have 12 or 16 mega-pixel sensors.
The E-PL6 or similar models have several useful features that my older camera does not have.
