So have some 775 cpus laying around, and I am looking for suggestions for what motherboard to buy. The one I am really interested in is my Q6700 Kentsfield. I would like to find a 775 board that could use DDR3 but Newegg only has a few boards. Any suggestions would be appreciated. I do have a EP45-UD3R I could use my Q6700 in but would like to step it up to using DDR3. Again thanks form a newb to this Forum.

    Re: 775 Mobo

    Welcome to the forum.

Using DDR3 memory with an LGA775 motherboard is tricky at best and there is no real world benefit in real world performance with the "faster" DDR3 memory. Using current DDR3 memory kits will probably be much harder to get stable. It might be much easier if you can find some older DDR3 memory kits that are compatible with the older motherboard.

See http://forums.tweaktown.com/gigabyte...-ddr3-ram.html to see some of the problems that you will be up against.

      Re: 775 Mobo

New socket 775 boards barely exist, what exists is NOS, New Old Stock. Newegg has the most choices I've seen, and that is barely any.

I looked for one for an E8400 I have, what I found was not worth buying IMO, very old SATA chipsets, with IDE/PATA headers on the boards. That project is history.

Your only bet is used on eBay, etc.

Memory speed will depend on the chipset used on a 775 board, which can vary, but they might not even support DDR3 memory speeds. That detail is the least of your worry's IMO.
