ram voltage with x58 boards?

ok so i have a gateway fx6800 with an i7, not sure who made the mboard as its from gateway, cpuz shows ram is at v1.5, would v1.65 ram work on it and not fry it?, ive found a couple v1.5 sticks from crosair xms, but they're $30-40 more expensive than the v1.65 kits, so i just wanna make sure before i buy that its not gonna fry the cpu or something.

Yes, it would work but it would most likely run at 1.5V and 1333 or 1066Mhz, depending on what your current speed is now. The 1.65V sticks all start at 1.5V anyway, until the user changes this in the BIOS, so you would be fine as long as the ram itself is compatible (Meaning the IC Chips and timings, not the voltage setting)
