Help with GA-EP45-DS3R and OCZ Reaper 8500

  • Help with GA-EP45-DS3R and OCZ Reaper 8500

    alright, first I'll give you my computer specs:

    • Motherboard and revision: Gigabyte GA-EP45-DS3R v1.0
    • BIOS: F10
    • CPU: Intel C2D Q6600 @ 2.4GHz
    • Memory: 8GB OCZ Reaper HPC OCZ2RPR10664GK (I have 2 4GB kits)
    • Video Card: Saphire HD4870 1GB
    • Power Supply: Cooler Master 750W
    • HDD: 3x WD 500GB (No Raid)
    • Optical Drives: LG SATA DVD+/-R
    • Operating System: Vista Ultimate 64bit

    I'm trying to get the system stable at 3.6GHz, but memtest tests 5 & 7 fail. Actually test 5 locks the system around ~52% of the first pass.

    So here are the settings I'm currently using:

      Ok, I made the changes you recomended and I get a rebooted from memtest during the first pass. I get a stable system at a x8 CPU multiplier giving me 3.2Ghz so I have hope. I'll play with the range values somemore and see if I can make it work.

        Ok, no joy with those values. Either memtest locks up or it reboots after about 28%.

                  What is your exact settings that fail with two sticks? Sorry to ask likely again, but have you tested each stick one by one at stock?

                    I can get them to run fine at stock just not at 3.6GHz I'm doing some more testing today and I'll let you know what I find. Thanks so much for the help also :)

                      Let me ask this, would it be best to pick a FSB and SPD divider that would would let me set the memory to run at 1066MHz intead of one that one slightly OC the ram? I still can't find what is holding me back from 3.6 With the setting you gave above I can run at 3.2 all day long but not 3.6.

                      Shouldn't changing the CPU multiplier just affect the CPU side of things since the memory was already running stable at that FSB?

                          Well when you increase FSB you have to also adjust your ram and voltages as you know, because it changes your ram speed you will not be stable with the same settings often as your speed is higher

                            Test #3 still kills it. I'm going to test each stick @3.6 and see what I get. Thanks so far BTW. Testing one stick goes faster than all at once also :)

                              I got the system running at 5-5-5-18 @ 386 FSB. Now I have an odd problem, I get no errors what-so-ever in memtest but windows bluescreens on boot. I also tried a unbuntu liveCD and it crashes also. Any ideas?
