Assuming your nic and cable are good.
go to start --> run
type in command, hit ok
you should be in a dos box
type "netsh int ip reset c:\resetlog.txt"
that will reset TCP/IP to a clean state
and then reboot
then go to the dos prompt, same way as before
and type "ipconfig"
