  • Lan card question

Hey, The next 2 days, I'll be switching to DSL from my current dialup connection! Do I need a lan card or an ethernet device? Are they the same? And one thing, Is it better to buy a PCI card than to use my built in ethernet device? Thanks! :?: :D

Lan card = network card = NIC = ethernet device.

However, it all depends on the modem you get as to what type of connection you need. I can't say I've seen an internal DSL modem though, as most of them usually are Ethernet or USB.

Thanks for replying beefy, but I'm a little bit confused. I've got VIA Rhine II fast ethernet controller. I forgot to say that our DSL ISP will provide the modem. So The Modem will just be plugged in where? inside or to the ethernet device?? Sorry I'm confused.

Well, if it's an ethernet modem, it'll plug in the ethernet port on the back of the network card (a small rectangular hole, usually with a couple of lights nearby). Looks kinda like this - http://www.umes.edu/it/images/network-plug.jpg

If it's a USB modem, then it'll plug into a USB port.
