  • Going Wifi

Due to my a death of a port on my 5 port switch dying I needed to get another one. I decided that I might as well get a router. that I thought some more and with my carPC almost done, and a wifi card on the way, I might as well go with a wifi router.
so, I looked around and found Linksys BEFW11S4 router on ars for 40shipped.
I also got the 4 port switch (5ports -1 dead) along with soon to arive 8 port hub.
Since no broadband is available yet, I will have to do this all on dialup.
So I guess Im wondering would I plug in the Main PC (one with modem) into the LAN port or WAN port?
I thing that the incoming port (WAN) is 10mbps, but I want 100mbps, just not sure if I it all will play together.
    I have 7 systems total
1 in room upstairs, 1 in livingroom and 5 in my room

This is what I would like to happen.
    BEFW11S4
port1. Main PC with dialup system1
port2. Connection to 4 port swich
port3. connection to 8 port hub
    port4. empty

    4 port switch would have
    port1. connection to BEFW11S4
    port2. connection to livingroom system
    port3. connection to upstairs system
    port4. blank

    8port hub
    port1. connection to BEFW11S4
    port2. connection to cruncher 1
    port3. connection to cruncher 2
    port4. connection to cruncher 3
    port5. connection to cruncher 4
    with other ports free.

will this all work? I think it will.
I just want to know about the router in port.

PS. the carPC will conect to through wifi.

Looks fine. You'll wanna put that ICS PC in a LAN port, not the WAN port.

          OK. Got it hooked up.
But I found that the DHCP server has to be turned off if I want other systems to access the internet.
Which is pretty much the end of my fun untill the wireless card gets here!
