        Type .php into google and it will come up with more info than you can stand.

        It is not something you can explain in a couple sentences.
        You answered your own ? as well. They are different types of coding.

          .asp uses MS ASP Scripts (Active Server Pages)
          .jsp uses Java Scripts
          .php uses Perl Scripts

                Actually .php is the extension for PHP scripts. .pl is the common Perl extension.
