  • Network File Sharing With A Firewall

When I am at LAN Parties our attendies like to share files on a network. We also like to be connected to the internet at the same time. I'd like to know if it is possible to share files and be on the internet with a firewall running. We run NIS 2003 Pro or ZoneAlarm. We typically are sharing a cable connnection (1.5 Mbps) and are on a Linksys router.

to get easy filesharing out of ZA, click 'Firewall' on the rightside of the main window, then click the 'Zones' tab on the upper right.
Click Add>>IP Range (bottom right) and enter the local IP range of the computers in your LAN

Depending on the router, it probably acts as a firewall from the Internet, if that's what you are worried about. What minibubba suggested will also work well.
