side buttons on logitech mice not being detected in games (bf2)

i used to have a wired mx and i used the side buttons in bf2 and i remember having some problems with setting it up and now i have a mx1000 and having the same problems.

tried getting new updated software from logitech but still when i go into bf2 and try to change some of the commands to the side buttons of the mouse nothing happens.

it was in the logitec setpoint utilities under the games tab; i enabled game detection and the 'apply game settings...' disabled all the other options and worked fine.
