  • strange ram posting and odd vcore behaviour

i've noticed that my motherboard reads that i have 1048mb or ram when it boots up, when in fact i have 1024mb. i have two 512mb sticks of samsung K4H560838E-TCC4 PC400 DDR (3200) set at a vdimm of 2.6v with timings of 9-4-4-3. if i opt for tighter timings the system is unstable.

i've also noticed in mbm5 that the vcore on my mobo fluctuates like crazy. i've seen it vary from 1.57-1.84 while my cpu was at idle the whole time. this occurs when i manually set the vcore in the bios or when i let the bios auto select the vcore.

    i'm running at stock. 166mhz x 13 for 2172mhz.

should i be considering an RMA of my board or are these fluctuations natural? i haven't even begun to mess with overclocking of this system as system stability has been at question at stock speeds. any help would be appreciated.

Check the bios voltage readings to see if they do it there as well. Try a different psu as well. As for the amount of ram, that is normal. I suspect the fan only power leads could cause this(maybe), use regular ones and see if there is a difference. I will be looking at a machine with that exact case/psu/athlon xp2000 tonight, and will post my findings.

maximus, the 380W antec psu is actually the second psu that i've tested the mobo on. i borrowed a psu off of a friend to see whether something was wrong with mine and i noticed the fluctuating voltage occurred with either psu. the test psu was an enermax 350w.

i do get those erratic vcore readings even when in the bios, although they fluctuate slightly less. i suspect that mbm5 is slightly off in it's reading.

unplugging fan only connectors didn't make a difference.

it's good to know that the increased ram posting is acceptable.

please do let me know if you find anything. i'd appreciate it. i did find that there are others out there with the asus a7n8x series who've been experiencing the same woes. it seems it's an issue with some boards. i guess the question is whether it's issue enough to get a replacement.
