pc shut down + error

Hi recently on a few occassions my pc shuts down by itself to an error screen. The error reads: DRIVER_IRQL_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL pc has been shut down to protect....etc etc and then right at the bottom
stop: 0x000000D1 (0xFF571000,0X00000002,0X00000001,0XF7BE20FF) afd.sys.Address F7BE20FF base at F7BD4000, Datestamp 3d6de2d9

I think this might be some loose component possibly? I know when i was messing about with the memory the other time ever since then everytime I switch on my pc it makes a beeping noise and I have to press the reset button to stop the beeping noise and continue with the system start.
Any other ideas what it may be?

The problems you describe usually occur when there is an error allocating code into certain areas of the RAM memory. The source of this type problem is that the system can't find the address that it wants to place the code or that address is occupied by something else. There is an old trick that sometimes works for this problem, which is related to ensuring there is a solid connection between a particular stick of memory and the memory slot into which it is inserted. Try removing the memory stick(s) and rubbing the contact points with a soft rubber eraser. This will usually remove the oxidation that sometimes accumulates on the gold contact surfaces and will ensure a good electrical contact. Do this on both sides of the memory stick. Make sure to wipe any small particles of eraser from the contact surfaces, and try not to get your fingerprints on the newly scrubbed surfaces (because the salt and oil from your fingers will re-oxidize the contacts). Then firmly insert the memory stick(s) back into their slots and give them a VERY GENTLE rocking action to ensure they are fully seated. Then fire up the PC and see if that corrects the problem. If not, and if you have more than one stick of memory, remove a single stick of memory at a time and see if that corrects the problem. If it does, then you have a bad memory stick that needs to be replaced. Hope this suggestion is of some help. TheBeagle in ChocolateTown - USA.

thanks beagle. Removed the memory and put it back in again - guess hadn't fixed it properly last time. At least that beeping noise has stopped when i started my pc. If it comes up with the same error again in the future, you'll see me adding to this thread again.
