  • Gigabyte 7850 OC 2GB no signal/ card not detected

    Hi all

Recently purchased the above card and cannot get the card to install. If i connect the card to my system and turn the power on I cannot even get the bios screen; power is feeding to all devices including the card as both fans are spinning. turned my pc off unhooked the six pin connector and connected to the on board graphics and my pc powered up normally. Once I was back into windows I connected the six pin connector and tried installing the drivers from the CD; the drivers will not install (previous ATI drivers had been uninstalled). By the way there are no beeps registering when the 7850 is seated. Also tried with the on board graphics disabled and no luck. Outside of reinstalling windows I am at a loss about how to combat this problem. All my other cards work fine - 550ti; HD 5570 & HD 5770.

    Quick spec's
    i3 2120
    8Gb 1333 Ram
    Windows XP, 7 & 8
    Gigabyte B75M - D3V motherboard with PCI-e 3.0 support
    500 watt psu

Should also mention that I removed the cmos battery which made no difference.

The card is not detected when using the device manager

Sometimes a video card can't be recognized if you're running with an older motherboard bios version.
Go to the Gigabyte website for your motherboard, to see if newer bios versions are available where F12 is the latest bios version for the rev: 1.1 motherboard.

I had a look at the bios updates on the site before posting this thread and did not know if any of the updates were viable; my current version is F5; thought F9 might have been the one to use because it improves system compatibility. Slightly hesitant as I have never updated a bios before and I assume this means flashing the bios which to my understanding should not be done unless absolutely necessary?

I found another thread with people experiencing issue with the same type of card; sapphire vs gigabyte also with different brands of motherboards.

Re: Gigabyte 7850 OC 2GB no signal/ card not detected

You can't go by the bios descriptions on the downloads web page because they don't include a comprehensive list of fixes or enhancements.
The safest thing to do is to first test your video card in a different system that hopefully is compatible with your card.

Flashing your motherboard should always be done carefully and if you follow the recommendations by flashing with the extracted bios file copied to a usb flash drive, you shouldn't have any problems when you plug the usb flash drive into a rear I/O panel usb 2.0 port and use the bios when flashing. In the past, flashing your bios when you are in windows bricked some motherboards.

Check out http://forums.tweaktown.com/gigabyte...tml#post455589, post #7 where the OP RMA'd his video card to Gigabyte and they returned his card to him stating that it was working fine. His problem was a compatibility issue with his motherboard bios and flashing his mobo to the latest version fixed his problem.

I never flash my motherboard bios with my everyday overclocked bios settings.
I always use QFlash with my system running at stock speeds.

Re: Gigabyte 7850 OC 2GB no signal/ card not detected

You tell us where and we'll both know.
I'm not being sarcastic, I don't know of any mobo manufacturers that provide a detailed list of fixes and enhancements for any of their bios versions.
It must be beyond their capabilities to provide a list of bug fixes and enhancements the way that quality software vendors usually do.
They're selling hardware to enthusiasts and I guess that they just want us to trust them.
Maybe we will see a detailed list at the same time as their tech support provides prompt, meaningful replies and they provide much more detail in their motherboard manuals.

Much more often than not, the latest bios versions are stable and have numerous bug fixes and enhancements.
As to bios flashing, if it ain't broke, dont' fix it is a safe way to go, but you might be missing out on some undocumented performance improvements.

Send a request directly to tech support and be sure to post their reply in the forum.
