  • GTX 560 vs 6870

I have really been looking at getting a GTX 560 but just saw some review that shows that 6870 to be faster. I don't know how reliable that is. Anyone care to lead me in the right direction that shows me otherwise? Thanks.

    Re: GTX 560 vs 6870

Your best bet is to go with the card that best meets your current and future gaming needs. Some benchmark scores are meaningless, especially if the scores are for games that you'll probably never play. There are some excellent review sites and all too many mediocre sites. My two favorite graphics review sites are HardOCP and TechpowerUp. Both of these sites rate the "playability" of every card in specific games. Absolute scores are not the most important consideration.

Which GTX 560 card are you looking at? The better performing GTX 560 Ti or the lower priced "standard" GTX 560? The Ti is more expensive and better performing. If you're willing to go for the 560 Ti, your should seriously look at the 6950 cards. Other considerations are which card has the best mix of lower fan noise, electrical needs (watts), operating temperatures and encoding performance/quality (for some owners).

Tell us what your video gaming/encoding needs are.
Just my 2 cent high lever overview.

I should have mentioned I am not a gamer. I am using this with video editing and Vegas Pro 11.

        Re: GTX 560 vs 6870

Have you posted your question in the Vegas Pro 11 user forum at Sony Creative Software - Forums - Home?
It looks like your motherboard supports CrossFire, but with a P35 system with a 16x/4x setup and pci-e 1.x this probably would be an expensive option with minimal benefit. Another option is to contact Vegas Pro 11 tech support and see if they have specific recommendations.

If it's within your budget, I think that a 560 Ti or 6950 will give you the best bang for the price.
Let us know what you find out as this might help others.
