extending my desktop to another tv

hi there hope you can help i wish to use my lcd tv in the kitchen as a second monitor for the wife's laptop so i can watch the footy in peace.i have connected the tv and notepad with a vga cable and all i get is my desktop back ground.i have to drag my icons to the right and off screen then they appear on the tv and then drag them back to the notepad when she has finished.is this right i have seen how to do a setup on you tube and they didn't have any problems.is there something i am not doing or is it just a case of that's how it works with a note pad.i have listed the note pad below...cheers for any reply i might receive........nicko

Look if you can find any settings that lets you specify the "Full screen monitor"
