HELP!!!!! Compaq Mini 110 crashed and will no longer boot!!!!

Ok, not sure the deal here, but I was online and the laptop crashed and now all I get is a black screen with the Compaq logo on it, but the machine WILL NOT POST... I get nothing out of it...any ideas? Thanks in advance!!!!!!!

What kind of drive is in this?

Can you clear CMOS or flash BIOS

Cleared CMOS, it booted for a litle while, but when the system shuts down, it doesn't want to boot again.

Getting ready to flash BIOS.
Tried to create a XP install by USB, but the system crashes when it says "Windows is starting up"

any ideas?

Not sure on your USB XP install, sounds like you might not have the USB created correctly or with the right drivers for your BIOS settings

Did you try flashing the BIOS yet?

Reinstalled Windows XP SP3 (the only way it would recognize the external DVD drive w/o crashing, then it still lagged on the boot time, had to turn the system off, then on and "F10" to get into the Bios setup. Loaded defaults and then it would boot.

Next I flashed the Bios and it seemed to be fine, but I am wondering, when I pull the plug, if the internal battery is going bad and not keeping the memory? Do you understand what I am saying? Like when you want to clear the CMOS in a standard PC, you pull the plug and the battery for a few minutes and then plug it all back in and it usually works... Gonna turn it on this AM and see if it works....

I booted it and had to go into the Bios setup and I disabled all the booting peripherals (USB, etc...) left only the SATA Internal Drive), restarted and it booted fine...any ideas? Oh, how I hate minis! LOL!!! Gotta love the work tho!

Ya, the CMOS battery could be going bad and that would erase the optimized BIOS settings.

Or if you meant the actual large laptop battery going bad, not sure if that would cause the CMOS to clear that quick or not?

Ya, that's exactly what I was thinking, the CMOS battery, the regular battery is holding a charge fine it seems. Taking to customer today, if they have any other problems, I may have to take that battery out and replace it.

I'd go ahead and open it up then and replace the battery and see if that helps or not, luckily those are cheap

I had the hardest time opening it up, but i am going to find the battery and change it for the customer later...but at least if they don't turn it off, it stays running, but I noticed that when I turned it off and turned it on again, all my settings are jacked up...I had to reset it all again. I'm really leaning towards the battery going bad and the Compaq mini is only 1yr old, if that...I dunno, heating issues maybe????

Could just be a faulty battery from the get go, but ya from your last comments on quick on/off test it does sound like the battery has failed

after all the testing I was doing, it only makes sense that that, that has to be the issue...that's what keeps the "rememberance" of the bios going... thanks for al your help. It's always a pleasure to deal with you...

Yep, pretty sure that was it, but I wasn't able to fix it b/c my customer's daughter (owner of laptop) already wants another one...lol...) net books, a fad. Thanks ya'll!
