  • FANS 3pin to 4pin on MB?

Hiya folks. I have a male 4 pin connector on my MB and a 120mm exhaust fan in my case. simple quesition will the 3 pin connect to the four pin?

the guides on the connector match up for the 3 pins and it would just leave one pin empty.

    Any help appreciated

    TIA Russ

Yes that will work just fine, it will run at 100% speed though unless you have some options of adjusting via your BIOS

I use speedfan with my 3 pins and disable the cpu and system smartfan in bios.

        Hi guys,

Speed fan doesn't seem to have any control over them dont know why.

LSD dude, still have that pile of crap p35-s3g motherboard.
So no dude i doubt i have controllers in the bios.

Man i still cant OC this damn board in the bios without it re-setting in post.

I know buy a new one. And some of those fandagled PWR or whatever they are called. I will put the 3 pin onto the the 4 pin on MB for the time being i wasn't sure if it would cause any damage.

Speedfan is terrible! You should have some control with Easytune after you enable CPU Fan control in the BIOS in the PC Health Status Page. Of course on your board this may only cover the CPU Fan, which you could move the CPU fan to another header if you wanted and have it run 100% all the time and then control the other making the board think it is the CPU fan

If you get a new board, since you want to overclock, do not buy a S3 or L model as they are budget and not the greatest of overclocking boards. Get a DS3 or above, or UD3 or above

Speed fan doesn't seem to have any control over them dont know why.
I use SpeedFan v4.39. If you want here is how I got it working.
Open speedFan/click the info tab/Click Get Config/you need a ticket number to install in the ticket box/ click on the url, (watch it you may be working with (IE)tabs now)/ register (free)/ confirm through email/ enter username & password/ login/ click next step/ select your motherboard through dropdown list/ next step/ next step/ Get configuration/ choose one/ Get configuration/ now you see a set of numbers in bold like 458264
enter this number into your ticket. there now you can configure your fan settings to do as you please. I have mine working great. They automatically throttle up when the temps go up and down when it drops. It works great. If you close the program your fans will spin at the speed you had when the program closed so if you open it dont close it until you reboot. If you have your smartfans disabled the fans are at 100% with speedfan I can set them to what ever speed for temps I want high and low.
Here are some old images where I show they can be turned off completely if you want (not advised) this was for show

I had to uncheck the automatic fanspeed box to show this.
If you don't understand the user interface the program can be difficult. A configuration ticket is the answer.

There was no ticket number on mine either. I used the one with the same chipset and adjusted the settings slightly.
