the damn screen keeps going blank. any idea on how to FIX the problem. i tried to open up the phone but couldn't take the LCD screen out.

Sounds like the same problem as the 8210 has, if you take the phone apart you can should be able to clean the contacts for the LCD, or anther thing i have found is different skins work better some times, or put pressure on different points.

You will need to replace or have the elastomer replaced, if Nokia in your country do not provide the free fix.

There is no other way around this - poking the elastomer and cleaning it will only gain your temporary relief. You need to be careful because eventually the LCD will suffer the missing lines as a result.
