Yeah, no hub is needed. If you wanted to use a hub (to connect more PC's) then you would need to use normal cables not crossover cables.

Well, it's really simple. Two connect those two PC's directly, all you need is a crossover cable, plug one end into the laptop, other end into the PC, Windows XP detects and sets up the network, done. You can now share files (or whatever) between the PC's.

Nvidia provide great quality cards at a good price ( mainly the GF4 Ti4200 and more recently the FX5700U) and the driver support has always been great and you can count on the to add more performance to the card and promptly squash any bugs that may appear. Also they designed some great little teddy...

My PC is very similar to yours, (1700, nforce2, 2x256mb ram, ti4200) I would go for the CPU upgrade because that would definatly give you the best performance increase in games, but if you are doing big projects in photoshop and 3d studio max more than gaming the extra 512mb of RAM would give a nice...

I wasn't expecting to see a UK best prices thread along with the US and aussie ones :)
www.komplett.co.uk is a nice site if you are looking for PC hardware. Their prices may not be the cheapest (although quite cheap) but the have a nice range of products and i have never had a problem...
