Re: What PSU to buy?
Try an Enermax. Do not try Q-tech.
A good way is to go into the store (if you can), ask to look at the PSUs that you fancy. Heft the box. Buy the heaviest.
No, I do not joke. If the box is heavy, it means that there is a good chunk of electronics...

Re: Amd K6-2
You most likely will not get it to run at 500megs, as the mobo will be fairly old. IF you can actually get it to run at above 300megs, be aware that you need a software patch off the AMD site if you are running win95 (which may be possible as most 266's were either 95 or...

Re: OMG I have no idea what to do with retarded DELL
But, did you clean the top of the processor and bottom of the heat sink, then apply fresh compound?
If not, the thing may be shutting down instantly to prevent the processor frying itself.

Re: spread spectrum Q & (hopefully) A
The bottom line to all the above is that your computer is acting as a mini radio frequency 'jammer', poking out a fair chunk of electronic pollution on one fixed frequency. By selecting spread spectrum, the interference is 'jittered' around...

New report
Bought another, as threatened! With XP2400, 512 meg of ram in original machine, otherwise unchanged, now runs at 51/51c, but fans now running faster (to be expected). When I find time to raise second machine from electronic stasis, using original XP2000 and 256 meg, will report...
