The case that was on ebay had a de-cased KDS RAD5 in it... a laptop LCD also needs a display driver card... which you can get here.

WinXP (and 2k) uses ACPI to make most of the devices in your system share IRQ's. If your bios allows it, you can turn off ACPI support and reinstall XP. I have heard of ways to remove ACPI without reinstalling, but I don't remember them, and they were for 2k so I'm not sure about XP. Either way,...

WinXP is not just a service pack for 2k. It has many new features (like DLL protection and support for XPress link in the detonator XP's), not to mention it is much faster. My only problem is all the newbized control panels, etc. but you can turn those off.

Perhaps the temp. probe is large enough where it seperates the heatsink from the core a small amount, and it is reading the temp. off of the PCB near the core, which would be quite hot from the lack of cooling.
