You are very helpful and one up on the yanks Wiggo. I posted the same question on Arstechnica and no-one had any answers. The best they could do is say "look at the manual" which of course is useless. The manual doesn't tell you anything. That is why I made the post in the first place....

Do you know what these commands are doing in the machine?
Top Performance enabled/disabled
Fast Command ultra/fast/normal
I understand the 2 -2 1T stuff but what the hell are the above settings actually doing to the machine???

I am talking about the pricegrabber reviews. Specifically their reviews on the Gigabyte GA7VRXP motherboard. I whinged to Tweak Town as pricegrabber don't seem to have a means to feedback comments. Since their reviews form part of the Tweaktown site, possibly they might recieve my bleat if I squeal...

Review the reviewer
Somebody called Cohen bagged the GA7VRXP board on 13 May. No one knows who Cohen is as he declines to tell us. Does he have an axe to grind? Maybe he sell mobos for Gigabytes opposition?
Statments like "Destroys C drives" are downright ridiculous but a non technical reader...

I have no doubt your ISP has problems with Rockwell/Conexant. That is because a lot of these people are using the wrong driver. Usually a "generic" driver they have picked up from the Conexant website. Try sending them off to the Puretek website http://www.puretek.com.tw/e-version/downloa...

Yes, there are some xp problems with HSF modems. There is a bug in the driver for xp.
I don't use xp so no problems. I found that xp was a step backwards if you are a programmer or technical user as it limits your access to the nuts and bolts of the system. A good exercise for some of your mates...

You are bloody well right Albinus. Evveryone bags these modems when they don't even know which one they have. The chip based modems are excellent. I also run a "Lucent" mitsubishi modem and the the Puretek(i.e conexant) is always faster.
The chip based modems are good hardware....

I did change over to Win2k from Win98 and that seemed to help a lot. I notice that the KT333 chip set needs to use an extra driver for memory management if you use WIN98 and that the extra driver is not needed for Win2k. All and al though I am not happy with the GA7VRXP/1700XP/KingmaxDDR333 combo and...

I have also been having trouble. I suspect the "rave reviews" on Kingmax DDR333 are all bull****. I can only operate at 2T and disabled top performance. I plan to try Corsair PC3000 or PC3200 as soon as I can afford to buy it.
