• Weird Problem with games.

Specs:
amd2200xp ( WINXP-Pro)
asus a7s333 mobo / sis 745 Chipset
Geforce 8420 128 meg DDR
256 ddr 333 ram
100 gig HD

I updated to the latest drivers and still get this.

I can only explain it by examples.

Unreal 2K3: Loads up good, I can go to options,
quickstart, everything except multiplayer, when I click this
the game freezes but I can still move my mouse around the menu but on the menu its invisible.

In battlefield 1942:
I can go through everything fine but when I click Multiplayer it freezes and I can only see my mouse on the far left of the screen.
When i create it goes good then , you guessed it, FREEZES.
When I did a quickstart in it it ran completely fine.

make sense to anyone else?

Have you got your temps down yet?
Remember once you start to do something your cpu works harder and gets hotter.

Are you using 56k dialup connection? The problem could be your game trying to connect to the internet.

I have heard quite a few people have had this problem. A buddy of mine running 98se i think is having that problem and he claims that he has heard mixed results with XP.

Have you updated to XP's SP1?

Yeah some games do get issues with XP. Try uninstalling it and re-installing the games. Or maybe a clean install of XP may help out. I have never really heard of this happening before though...

Yeah, what temps are you running at now? Did you also try re-installing the games?

To me this sounds more driver/OS issue than heat related.
Have you played with graphics settings in both games? What if you choose the minimum settings (lowest quality) does it still freezes?
I've had some trouble with Nvidia drivers in the past ( yes Nvidia) so its not unheard of to have some kind of issues with them.

Try choosing plain VGA driver and uninstalling all your geforce stuff. Then install latest official drivers from Nvidia 30.83 (?)

Also you could try disabling your soundcard. Sometimes, specially on latest games, some cards give you trouble.

Hope you solve the damn thing.

Have a look at your event viewer and see if any driver issues are listed there (control panel under adminstrative tools). ;)
