  • MSI N560GTX-M2D1GD5 Graphics card

hi, im going to buy MSI N560GTX-M2D1GD5 in a cheap rate. I need a psu, plz tell me which one is good for me - Thermaltake SMART / Modular / 550W / ATX 2.3 / A-PFC / 14cm / EU/80 PLUS Bronze and Thermaltake Litepower / Non Modular / 650W / ATX 2.3 / A-PFC / 12cm / EU / Non 80PLUS. Im not sure which psu is good for me.

    Major differences:
Non Modular 650W: older design, less efficient (only 70%), 2x 6+2 pci-e cables, 5 sata connectors, 1 year warranty, cost = Tk. 6,800.00
    SMART Modular 550W: newer design, more efficient (82- 88%), 2x pci-e cables, 6 sata connectors, 1 year warranty, cost = Tk. 7,500.00
note: 550w has one 8-pin pci-e cable and one 6+2 pin pci-e cable

    A better psu:
XFX PRO 550W fully wired, newer design more efficient (82- 88%), 2x pci-e cables, 9 sata connectors, 5 year warranty, cost = Tk. 6,500.00
note: XFX has one 6+2 pci-e cable and one 6-pin pci-e cable
XFX PRO 550W Core Edition Full Wired 80+ Bronze PSU

With 70% efficiency, if your system needs 100 watts or power from the psu, you will need 143 watts from the wall outlet.
With 85% efficiency, if your system needs 100 watts or power from the psu, you will need 118 watts from the wall outlet.
This means that the older design, less efficient psu uses about 25 more watts each hour that your machine is running (at idle).
With higher electrical loads, the less efficient design will always use about 21% more electricity than the more efficient power supplies.
The newer designs will probably have much better voltage regulation and should be more stable.
The 70% efficient 650 watt psu's design is probably 5 years old or older.

I recommend buying the XFX 550W psu.

I don't trust ThermalTake power supplies, especially their lower cost units.

The 650 watt psu is 230Vac only and 75 watts of its power output is on the 5 volt rail, which is useless with modern systems.
There is only about a 24 watt difference on the 12 volt rail between the 650 and 550 watt power supplies and there is no advantage with the Thermaltake 650 watt psu.

Right now the only psu they have in stock is the ThermalTake 550 watt psu and it is about 10% more expensive than the inferior ThermalTake 650 psu. Are there any other websites where you can a new power supply.

You will need to read video card reviews to see which video card will offer the best performance in the games that you play. The HD5830 and the N560GTX probably have similar overall gaming performance, but I think that the HD5830 requires more power and it might have higher temperatures than the N650GTX. Do a web search using: hd 5830 vs gtx 560 to compare performance. As I recall, the GTX 560 has about 10% tp 15% less performance than the GTX 560 Ti version. The higher end GTX 460 1GB card's performance was similar to but slightly lower than the HD 5850 and the GTX 560 Ti card's performance was about 25% higher than the GTX 460 1GB version. Overall video card performance is noticeably better with a cpu with a moderate to high overclock.

A 550 watt psu is kind of low for a single mid-range video card.
I think that you'll much better off in the long run with a higher quality, newer 550 watt psu than a much older design that claims to offer 650 watts. Years ago, I made a mistake when I bought a ThermalTake 420 watt power supply. I found out later that its maximum output was only 340 watts and if you tried to draw more than 340 watts, the psu would shut down. Many cheapy power supplies can't deliver their full rated power and some will catch fire if you try to draw more power than it can safely deliver, even though the power supply isn't providing its full rated power.
