  • Video Controller issue driving me toward suicide.

    Hi everyone.

    Thanks for your time.

I'm trying to find the right video driver for my laptop.

My laptop's an HP Pavillion 6636nr. It used to run Vista, but I wiped that and reinstalled XP. The only thing my device manager is telling me is missing now is the Video Controller (VGA Compatible).

So from staring at the sticker on my laptop, I'm running on NVIDIA nForce 560. I've tried downloading drivers from almost every Google search result I get when I type in nForce 560 video controller or some permutation thereof.

I have CPU-Z and GPU-Z installed as well, and when I tried looking up my graphics info, nothing populated.

    Am I totally frakked?

Thanks so much for your time everyone. Have a good one.

The nForce 560 is the main chipset ...not the video chip. You might try here: Drivers - Download NVIDIA Drivers . Try to use the nForce 560 driver for Windows XP then see if your video card is properly detected after that. You should then be able to install the proper GeForce driver.

      Thanks!

I think at this point, I need to get the driver you suggested but then wipe my OS and reinstall everything in the correct order since the install wouldn't finish on my comp - got an error message telling me that the hardware wasn't compatible. I heard from a few ppl that this is due to a crappy reinstallation of drivers on my behalf, since I did everything in the wrong order.
