  • This may help those worried about vid card compatibilities w

Seems to be a bit of confussion of late with this question plus a few others so I'll put this up to see if it will help some out. If you can add to it please do. :smokin:

For starters there's this article from a german site, http://www.hardtecs4u.com/reviews/2001/agp4x_e/ (in English), and "Weiter" at the page bottom basically means next for those who don't know, that explains some of the compatibility problems.

Here, http://www.agpforum.org/specs.htm , has a lot of details on AGP specifications though you'll need Acrobat Reader for most of it.

Intel also has some information as well but more technical, http://www.intel.com/technology/agp/index.htm

Ok I hope that I've confused you all that bit more. :D

Note: Super Socket 7 motherboards in some cases won't work with vid cards above TNT2's, GF2's and Voodoo3's due to board design that doesn't allow enough current to reach the AGP slot though there are a few exceptions to this. ;)

Basically though so long as the video card and motherboard have at least one common AGP rating (video card 2x & 4x and motherboard 4x & 8x) then they will both work the common rating/s (in the example this would be 4x). : peace2:

Not a problem it's just this has come up a few times recently so I thought that it would be a good idea to compile some info here. As I or anyone else finds more we'll just post it here. ;)

Although I've never read about the AGP spec in that detail before - that's basically how I thought the backwards compatibility worked anyway.

        thanks for the clarification:thumb:

When I tried to use the A250 LEADTEC card on an asus A7A 266 m/b it fouls on the capacitors on the board cos it is a monster sized card.
it works fine except it leans a bit and you have to make sure it doesnt pop out when you shift the case.
the card in the photo is the asus v8170 ddr and it fits fine.the heatsink is the bit that touches.

Hi ppl SORRY ABOUT THE LONG POST .I am a bit confused with this whole AGP 2/4X 1.5v/3.3v issue
i recently bought a Leadtek A250 Ti 4600 vivo, and i was planing to upgrade my board when the isue of 1.5v only board's cought my attention, this link http://www.sharkyextreme.com/hardwa.../3261_941741__9
from sharky sais that newer AGP cards suport 1.5v and it the older Cards's that are 3.3v. This is my delema leadtek's site sais this card Ti 4600 need to run at 3.3v
                  http://www.leadtek.com.tw/www/Web_L...faq_english.htm
It's at the botom under Difference between AGP 1.0 slot 2.0.
My question is how do i confirm my Ti4600 is 3.3v ,the box sais it's 2x/4x compliant ,the card has 2 notches in the pin like this link from intel
                  http://www.intel.com/support/mother...sktop/agp15.htm
so am i wrong in asuming my card is only AGP 2x .And why would Leadtek be making a new card with old standards when i paid so much for this card ,have i been riped off .? Any help would be greatly apreciated thanks>

If the card is 2x/4x compliant then you'll be ok as 2x=3.3v and 4x=1.5v. The main problem here is with the "Yum-Cha" brands compliance really. ;)

when i bought my a-bit max 2 on the front of the box it mentioned about choosing correct vid card due to voltages ect.. good ole a-bit again !!!! talking of voltages, case fans ,run them of power supply instead of motherboard, minor drops in power can slow youre optamizzzed machine and adaptable power supply to keep load constant and to increase psu lifespan..darthdeath

RE: after speaking with a friend at ati and being a heavy nvidia pusher ^^ myself i have had few and far between problems inserting reg voltage agp cards in old socket 7 agp, if ever there is a problem underclocking a little and some voltage rugulators could be solutions, ^^

My thought's are that if mods like that are required to get the job done then there must be something better available out there and just leave the thing in the state the era of it's age dictated as even in that form it is still useful for someone's purpose if not ya own (unless ya a real diehard then that's entirely up to you but I can always find a purpose for them even if it's just P150 for someone who needs a websurfer and light office PC to doin' a young kids homework). : peace2:

It maybe something to do with the business I'm in I guess. :?:
