    Re: x1600 pro

6800GS is probably the best bang for the buck with AGP.

      Re: x1600 pro

Actually the X1600 Pro is quite comparable in that department. Although slower, it's also cheaper. If a 6800GS is out of your price range, an X1600 Pro would be a good choice.

        Re: x1600 pro

if i am not mistaken the x1600 pro and the 6800 gs only had a 5% performance difference between the two in favor of ati. in my most humble opinion, i personally like nvidia solely because of the drivers. i find that their driver support is significantly better than ati's...and i believe that that 5% could easily be given up for better hardware support.

A 6800GS is almost identical to a 6800GT or Ultra and it's better than either with overclocking and it's much cheaper. You'd have to be crazy to buy either for over $200 when 6800GS top out around $190.

enough said, read many, many posts guys are desperatly failing to unlock the gs to all 16 pipes, hmmm whys that?another thing, card companys disable pipes becasue the extra pipes failed ,and they lower the price and sell them as differnt model.yeah i wanna unlock broken pipes? spend another $40-$50 for a card that has true\tested 16 full pipes 6 vertex shaders(gt has 5)ummmm k save your$50 and hate yourself after u buy it.man i glad im hear to help,im not gonna let this dude think that a gt\ultra are identical to a gs,lmao man plz stop doing this to these ppl.notice s before t as in gs.then gt?this kid is gonna buy that gs and be on here in a week like"kjblblhblknb lkb"shoulda spent the $40-$50 more.u get what u pay for.having another 4 pipes is like 25 percent boost overall fps,benchmarking(3dmark etc)there not the same!!!.dont worry guys im here.plz ask me.

stay away from the 512MB version of the x1600 pro unless you just need the extra video RAM, why well its clocked a lot slower than on the 256MB card. i think its 800mhz GDDR3 256bit vs. 540mhz GDDR2 128bit. the extra video RAM does make Windows Vista run better with all the Aero/Glass eye candy turned on.

DUDE, then different reveiws of different manufacturers give different results. the gs is apparantly incredibly overclockable.
also, you say nvidia have "the way its meant to be played" youre right, but its the developers that talk to nvidia, not vice versa. that way, the developers get the most out of nvidia as well.

i never said the 6800gs is not overclockable,i know it is,unlocking pipes is the problem.and its meant to be played on nvidia because the guys at nvidia talk to game developers alot more then ati, cause canada is well in canda and in the states is were most games are made.notice ati is always last to catch up with newest games and driver support, lol?nvidia never has driver issues with games, mabye 5-10 years ago.THIS IS DIRECTLY OUT OF MY BF2 NEWEST 1.2..1 PATCH FILE RELEASE SUPPORT LOG FILE.

                    KNOWN ISSUE
                    ATI CROSSFIRE CARDS
                    - Crossfire cards with 256 Megs of memory, running in CrossFire mode will run out of memory at very high resolution settings.
On very high resolutions, such as 1920x1440 with 6x antialiasing. In CrossFire mode the ATI drivers are more restrictive
about where resources are allocated, and as a result run out of memory sooner than with a single board. This running out of memory causes
the device context creation to fail. The result is that the game just sits in a loop with a black screen. If you experience a context creation failure
change your resolution to a lower setting (e.g. 1024x768 or even lower).

hmmmm nothing about nvidia there i see?nvidia was side by side with ea and dice the whole time and currently during bf2 progress.ati was trying to overclock that r580 core, lol.and they made a nice x1900xtx tho,to bad it cant handle hi resolutions.

Identical means performance-wise. Specs are irrelevent and will always be. They (much like 3DMark scores) are simply numbers that have some relation to how a card performs, but do not indicate it directly.
                      http://www.anandtech.com/video/showdoc.aspx?i=2593&p=3
Identical performance, and the 6800GS overclocked (nevermind pipe unlocking) can near 6800 Ultra performance and surpass it with a well-cooled card.

Now this is perhaps the most rediculous argument I've participated in throughout the entirety of 2006. Anyone who thinks a 6800GT is "way faster" ither does not pay attention to hardware or has poor reading comprehension. I won't continue having little fights over data you post which are blatantly erroneous. I'll simply resume deletion of posts.

Uh-huh... Even though in BF2 it beats the 7900GTX in every resolution and is playable at every resolution, all the way up to 2048x1536? Even though it beats or ties a 7900GTX in every other game in every resolution. Yeah, it just can't handle those high resolutions. Nevermind Crossfire and SLI. Prohibitevely expensive for almost everyone, and I wouldn't even consider Crossfire.

You've been blinded by your fanatical devotion to nVidia. I know quite a few religious fanatics who are more open-minded about "competitors products" (if you will) than you are.

oh yeah, and a 7900gtx is supposed to be hardly better than a 7800gtx, apart from FEAR - the beta drver is supposed to give massive framerate increases.

You're both right and wrong at the same time. I believe Munkul was referring to a 512MB 7800GTX, while you and the Tweaktown article refer to 256MB GTXs. The difference between the 7800GTX512 and the 7800GTX is like a 6800GT to a 6800, but a 7900GTX to a 7800GTX512 is more like a 6800 Ultra to a 6800 Ultra-Extreme. Sure, there's a difference, and you might even notice it with the right settings and a powerful system, but it's not a huge difference.

Page 4 [GeForce 7800GTX256 vs. 7900GTX512]not (2 )256 cards vs each other ehh

"24 pixel pipelines are included on the 7900GTX (like the 7800GTX) but thanks to the increased core speed, performance should be increased without any problems at all.

Speaking of increased speeds, the standard clocks on the core is 650MHz which is a HUGE jump from the 430MHz found on the 7800GTX and memory has been bumped from 1200MHz to a massive 1600MHz thanks to the 1.1ns memory being used." from tweaktown review, now yawg i would agree with you if they were comparing 7800gtx512 vs 7900gtx512.but there comapring(clik the link).7800gtx256 vs 7900gtx512 ya a 1,500+ points in 3dmark is alot in my book, plus shrunk the die from 130mm to 90mm added another 256 of ram = 512,with shrinking the die they could ultilize lower wattage consumption in turn very hi clock rates across the board eqauting to a differnt creature in a sense.Moving more onto the core, this is nVidia’s first 90nm chip and what took ATI months and a huge amount of delays nVidia seemed to do without breaking too much of a sweat. The move to 90nm gives us higher clock speeds and cooler temperatures.
                              mmm

                              http://www.tweaktown.com/reviews/880...gtx/index.html

they never once compared a 7800gtx 512 card there, being they sold out awhile back on em running short of that samsung memory for the 7800gtx 512 model to use.
