So i was thinking about getting a new video card for christmas but im not sure what to get. Im looking for a step up from my current card which is a NVIDIA GeForce FX 5700 Ultra (128MB). I want something at a decent price and something that can handle 2 monitors and has improved graphics from the 5700. I found the Chaintech GeForce 6600 GT which can be found here http://www.tigerdirect.com/applicati...&sku=C460-7023

But still im not sure. Any suggestions?

That card is PCI Express in the link, you will most likely need a card that is AGP if you use your current mainboard.
What exactly are you trying to run that doesn't work with the FX 5700 ulta card? That should be O.K. with most stuff at a defualt setting. I know the one I use to own was O.K. for most things. Updating to the 6600 GT would be a slight improvement but its possible that your other hardware isn't up to snuff, and the gain you'd get would most certainly depend on that also.

You still need a decient computer in order to run a good graphics card.

        What are your system specs?

The CPU is good but what about your mainboard? Does it really have a PCI express port for the card you are considering?
If you can use PCI express the 6600GT would probably be a good choice in my opinion considering your price range, I think they also make an AGP version but I could be wrong. Another card that would outperform your current GeForce card would be an X700 for around $100 US, and I'm guessing your current PSU (Power supply unit) would have no problem powering it considering the card your using now.

Don't bother. You're using a card that wasn't made for PCI-E. Well, it technically was, but not under that name.
