  • About Sapphire GTO 256MB

    I'm thinking about getting a Sapphire GTO 256MB PCI-E. http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16814102601
Anyone know it's requirement to get working on a PC? Also since it is pci-e, if it does, does it need some kind of power connector or does it draw all it's power from slot?

Requirement is a motherboard with a 16x PCI-E slot available. As for power, you will need to have a PCI-E connection. Most newer power supplies come with this and if not, they make adapters that allow you to power this newer type of video board.

So it will not draw all it's power from the pci-e slot?

And that means i'll have to get the power adapter to plug power into this card?

So what's the cards power requirement?

If u look closely on the upper right hand corner near the fan you'll see some type of connector(white). What is that?

It's just that I'v been reading around and heard that if u got the right power supply wattage the pci-e slot will be able to deliver enough juice to the card and therefore no power connector needed.True?

Rechecked, doesn't need power supply connector. But how much watts does your power supply need to be in order to run this card?

                Re: About Sapphire GTO 256MB

                the basics:
                AMD64 3400
                I think an MS-7184 RS482 939P MB
512MB DDR RAM (going up to 1GB Dual channel soon)
                200GB HD
                30GB HD
                ~300W PSU

I wouldn't try to use any modern GPUs with that system. The 300W PSU probably isn't sufficient.

                    Re: About Sapphire GTO 256MB

So I should upgrade to say at least 400W-500W PSU? (not trying to get anything above $40)

Above $40? You'll probably need to get something above $40. I'm really suprised it's stable with that $300.

I suppose you could try to get something cheaper on eBay or the Anantech forums. Even then, you'll want something around 500W (480-520) and it can't just be any PSU. It has to be from a good company. A few examples are Fortron, Enermax, OCZ, and Antec. If you look hard enough, you can probably find a 480W from one of those companies on either site.
