I built a system for a friend and I used a GeForce FX 5600 video card in it becuase I got it for $50(US) thinking it was going to be powerfull enough to handle todays games at lower resolutions, and I needed to cut corners to keep the systems price in the friends price range. The system specs are as follows:
P4 2.6C GHZ CPU
Intel 865PERLL 865PE Chipset motherboard
Asylum GeForce FX 256mb video card
Crucial 512 mb 3200 system ram (256X2 Dual channel)
Maxtor 120GB harddrive (8MB Buffer)
I was floored to see that the system only got a score of 2600 and some odd points in 3Dmark03 and 9388 points in 3Dmark 2001. My old Compaq system with a AMD2100+ CPU in it and Geforce 4 Ti 4200 video card in it did about the same if I remember right.
I knew the GeForce FX 5600 sucked really bad but I didn't think it was that bad.
Is that all I should get for scores considering the CPU is pretty fast and I have Dual channel Ram in the system? Is that video card that big of a bottleneck? Or is there something I can do about it, short of spending more money on a video card??
