    hej guys my first post,

ok, today i was going to buy Radeon 9600XT and the guy that work at the shop say's he doesn't have 9600 but he have the Radeon 9700 series A97 for 249 euros(A97 not sure what it is maybe model of the card? :( ). the first price was 299 euros then after a small confersation we agreed so that i buy the card for 249 so i brought it. After i came home installed all the drivers i started Aida32 to view information about the card ok its a 9700 model but the GPU speed is only 277mhz and the memory speed is 270mhz
  , i was so angry man because i know that the 9600xt is lots faster, did i make a mistake beacuse of buying this card? should i return it and get my money back and buy the 9600XT from another shop for 189eur, plz guys hep me out tell me what to do because i don't want to keep this card any longer then necesery.
Or should i keep this card and overklock it to its max?

You are probably an owner of a ati 9700non pro, but the 9600 does not beat it due to its 4 pipelines, the 9700 has 8. So i think the 9700 is better than the 9600. So don't regret what you bought, and just because it has a clock advantage doesn't mean its faster either.

right now i tryd to overklock it to 300 mhz and while i was restarting it it didn't want to start up so i had to shut it down and do one more restart and after the window has loaded it says ATI has ??????? a problem do yoy want to send this information to ATI support.
Before this card i had a GeForce 4 mx440 64 mb i overklocked it to over 400 mhz and this one is going just a litle bit faster then that one i mean i don't want to spend 249 euros for something that works almost like the GeForce i want something new you know.
I also think that this is a bad model but am not sure, it comes from www.fic.com.tw i think i did make a mistake but i still want to hear other ppl what they have to say.

I also prefer the 9700np(256bit) over the r9600xt(128bit). Although the average ti4600 is faster than both. But what about oc ability with that peticular model?

I doubt the mx is faster than your a97(which stands for 9700nonpro), did you uninstall the drivers of the gf before installing the ATi drivers? Also, i believe you can softmod it to 9700 pro, causing the card to recieve more voltage= higher clocks. I might be wrong about the softmod. The 9700 is a great card, and i prefer 9700 over the 4600 because of directx9 support and its alittle faster.

http://www6.tomshardware.com/graphic...ournament_2003 - check out the various performance differences between the cards. You'll see that the 9700 beats the 9600 XT. The MX cards aren't even on the list, as they don't have DirectX8 support, let alone DirectX 9 which you got.

Next time, do some research before you buy a card. ;)

yes i did a lot of research and as i read the 9600xt is a great card that is worth buying and its just 189 euros, and this one is not something special i run the banchmark 3Dmark2003 and when i run it on default settings with 1024x768 its running preaty nice but still it doesn't go smooth it has some glitches, and when i use like antialias 6x or even 4x the 3Dmark03 runs real slow only the first game test runs nice with 100 frames or more, but when it comes to second game it runs real slow like 3 to 6 frames and i think its not worth buying a card of 249 euros that doesn't run games smooth.
And like i sayd before i tryd to overklock it to see if it will make any improvement but i coldn't overklock not even to 300mhz and i tryd it with latest version of RivaTuner 2.0 RC 14.3 + SoftR9x00 + SoftFireGL.
                My system specs are:
                AMD Athlon 2700+
                512 DDR Dual Channel
                Gigabyte motherboard
                and the 8x is enabled

How about more detailed info about your setup like model #'s? Which os are you using? Do you have the proper chipset drivers?

i overclock it to core clock 351 and memory clock 303.8 i have seen much improvment while running on 3dmark03 and 3dmark01, also much beter on aquamark.

here are my scores for 3Dmark01 and 3Dmark03:
3Dmark01 all settings default with 1024x768x32 resolution
                    14184

score for 3Dmark03 at default settings:
