  • goodbye mx, losing support

Got crazy taxi3 today. While installing, it specifically said that it will not run with any mx card or lower, I assume this means r7xxx as well, I will try it with a r7500. This is the first I have seen of this. I believe this will be the case with more and more games in the coming year. This will be a huge kick in the ass for people who recently got burned on one, and are still buying them(lol).

Speaking of mx, I have heard of a gf4 mx4000, a little late for this, for curiosity sake does anyone know more about it? Peticularly some sort of review or pics or something.

The game must require DirectX 8 support or better, which the GF2MX / GF4MX doesn't have.

The only thing the r7xxx has over the mx is environment bumpmapping.

          7xxx doesn't support DirectX 8 - http://www6.tomshardware.com/graphic...229/index.html (all DX8 + 9 cards)

Actually, environment bumpmapping is a dx8 feature, not dx7 or dx8.1
For example, the only reason gf4 ti cards are refered to as dx8, is because they are not full dx8.1(would be false advertising), they are missing pixel shader 1.4 (dx8.1)and has 1.1 instead which is a dx8 feature. The first cards to have a dx8 feature were the r7xxx. Now these r7xxx cards were never very popular and I think thats why they are a mystery to most(I had a r7000 vivo). And almost everyone(even at tt) is confused about the difference between dx8 and dx8.1 which is not a revision like dx9b is to dx9, but a different version alltogether with different features.

I was beggining to wonder why my 2 year old Sager laptop with radeon 7500 graphics could play just about every directx 8 game i threw at it with all the eye candy on @ 1024x768. Thanks for the clarification..

So basically, when I went from a r9000pro(dx8.1) to a ti4800se(dx8), I downgraded dx featurewise but increased speed. I knew full well what I was doing.
