  • Kyro 4500 or GeForce2 MX400 ?

 Lookin' to build a computer for a friend. I know these are very old video cards ( 2 years ). Apollo Kyro II 4500 64Mb AGP & Aopen nVidia GeForce2 MX400 4x AGP. They have them @ Overstock.com for around $40.00 each. He's not a "Gamer" Just word processing, Web Surfing Etc. I know these "were" good cards "two years ago". But, that there is the "6 month cycle"...
What does cough, cough, Gateway/HP/Dell cough, cough use in their $499.00 Celeron Deals?
I'm using a ECS K7VTA3 with a XP1800, XP Home Edition,512 DDR (PNY) 80 Gig HD. TBSB Sound Card. Am I doing him a dis-Service putting this kind of a Video card in there? Obviously any thoughts you have would be appreciated.

    Thanks,

    More Than This, :?:

MX400 wont be good for any modern games. At least spend $80ish and get a 64mb TI4200.

It'll seriously own either of those cards and is well worth the extra cash. It'll play modern dx8 games decently too. It's the absolute best price/performance vid card you can buy right now.

i owned a mx400 for a LONG time. its a decent card for office work etc, far better than my sisters onboard intel extreme gfx. if he is even thinking of playing games though, get him a gf3 ti 200, you can get a good deal from dabs.com (dunno about other parts of the world)

        : peace:

If he is getting a gaming card, he is better off with a ti4200, but its for office use.

Thanks you guys. Yea, I'm just tryin' to see if there is any practical use for these cards (in today's world) if you don't play or even dabble in any of these games.

            Thanks,

            More Than This : peace:

the gforce 2 mx 400 is still a decent enough card and can play nfs underground in a system very similar to the one your building

Use the GF2 MX400 as the Kyro can be very problematic.

You could also look at a low-end Radeon card, as it will give a slightly cleaner image quality than the gf2mx.
