Hi!! I need some help with my PC. My ram is 1600 but it is downclocked to 1333, I tried to set my FSB to 400 to match the ram but it wont boot, it just beeps and restarts. How can i make my ram work on 1600?

Re: How to Overclock Q9550 on EP45T-UD3R with DDR3-1600

    Welcome to the forum.

We need detailed information about ALL OF THE HARDWARE in your system.

We can best help you after you create a detailed hardware list in the System Specs
portion of your forum profile at the bottom of the profile page or in your forum signature.
Be sure to include brand names and model numbers.
When you are done editing or creating your hardware list, save the settings.

Running DDR3 memory at its rated speed is often difficult with P35 and P45 motherboards.

If your memory kit is on Gigabyte's memory compatibility list or if its on the memory manufacturer's compatibility list for your motherboard it will be somewhat easier.

I'm assuming that your cpu is not overclocked. For starters you can try the following:
    1. Set Performance Enhance to Standard, not Turbo.
    2. Lower your CPU multiplier to 8.0.
    3. Increase CPU Host Frequency from 333 to 366MHz, the new cpu speed will be 2.928GHz.
    4. Set the System Memory Multiplier to 4.0B and your new memory speed will be 1464MHz.
    5. The DRAM voltage should be set to the maximum setting that is printed on the memory module's sticker.

If your system still does not boot, set MCH Core to 1.20 - 1.24, MCH Core which is too low or too high will not let your system boot. You might need to set MCH Core to 1.28 - 1.30.

If your system boots, run the Prime95 Large FFT stress test for at least 4 to 8 hours. Run a follow up Prime95 Blend test if there are no errors with the first test.

If you are not familiar with running Prime95, click on the Prime95 tutorial link in my signature.

Hello Sir profJim, My PC just finished the torture test and there are no errors on it, what should i do next to achieve 1600?

Re: How to Overclock Q9550 on EP45T-UD3R with DDR3-1600

          Next:
          1. Lower your CPU multiplier to 7.5.
          2. Increase CPU Host Frequency from 366 to 402MHz, the new cpu speed will be 3.015GHz.
          3. Keep the System Memory Multiplier at 4.0B and your new memory speed will be 1608MHz.

Sometimes there can be problems when the bus speed is set to 400MHz.

          Repeat the stress test(s).

If this test is successful you can try using the 8.0 cpu multiplier where the cpu speed will be 3.216GHz.

Keep in mind that the overall performance will be best with higher cpu speeds, even if the memory speed is slightly lower.

When you post your next screenshot, click on Memtest's ">>" to show the settings for both memory channels.

Running HWiNFO's sensor settings will provide useful information for temperatures and voltages.

Re: How to Overclock Q9550 on EP45T-UD3R with DDR3-1600

Is the maximum rated voltage for your memory = 1.65 volts?

When tweaking the system to correct errors, it's best to only make one change at a time. If you make multiple changes at one time, you won't know which bios change helped, or if it's worse, you won't know which of the changes caused the problem.

Manually set CPU PLL to 1.57.
With CPU PLL set to AUTO, it will be severely over-volted with moderate or high overclocks.
I always set CPU PLL manually to 1.50 (stock), 1.57 volts or up to 1.59 volts maximum.

Increasing Cpu Termination from 1.20 to 1.22 might help.
When overclocking, the Cpu Termination (aka VTT) should be at least 0.05 volts lower than Cpu Vcore.
With my current 3.825GHz setup, my CPU Termination is 1.30 volts, my CPU Vcore is 1.38750 volts and CPU PLL is 1.57 volts

Do not copy any of my settings, even though we both have Q9550 processors.
If your Cpu Vcore setting is on AUTO increasing it one or two clicks might help. Note each click is only 1/160th of a volt, or 0.00625 volts.

There can a big difference in cpu voltage requirements when comparing two "similar" systems.

You did a good job describing the Prime95 error, but it's important to report how long Prime95 ran before the error occurred.

                  If Prime95 fails within:
                  • minutes or up to an hour, your system is not all stable.
                  • 1 to 2 hours, your system is marginally stable.
                  • 3 -6 hours, your system is somewhat stable
                  • 8 -12 hours, your system is very stable, but there is still room for improvement.

I don't consider my system to be stable until each of the three Prime95 tests has run at least 8 - 12 hours with no errors.

Years ago the common wisdom was that each of the Prime95 tests had to run for at least 24 hours before the system was considered stable.

Re: How to Overclock Q9550 on EP45T-UD3R with DDR3-1600

Your memory's primary timings at 1600MHz should be 11-11-11-28 and your earlier screenshot shows 10-11-11-29 timings.

Make the following changes, but make one change at a time and then test again.
                      1. Change the primary timings to 11-11-11-28 and test.
                      2. Set Cpu Termination = 1.22 volts and test.
                      3. Increase the DRAM Voltage to 1.57, if needed up to 1.58 - 1.60 should be OK.
                      4. Set MCH Core to 1.20, if necessary try 1.22 - 1.26 volts.
You might need to try less than 1.20 but more than 1.10 volts.
When MCH Core is too high or too low your system might have boot loops.

It's best if you post the Cpu-z window, both Memset windows and the ET6 window.

Your screenshot in post #3 is no longer available.
If necessary, you can permanently upload one image in each post.

I added one additional bios setting change to the previous post:

Set Cpu Termination = 1.22 volts and test.

I think there is a bug with ET6, I double checked my voltage settings and the settings that i setted on the bios is not in the ET6.
This is the current status of my system and the voltage in bios.
I setted the ram to manual and made it 11-11-11-28
