Well ya almost got it right but why in the forum software though ya can't leave spaces or droplines in ya html code so if ya go to edit ya post now ya'll see that I've turned ya code into 1 complete line which eliminated that large blank area in ya post. ;)

Try dropping right in here....if the links don't work due to word wrap or whatever, just go to www.newegg.com and search on "Chieftec", "Antec"

Chieftec OEM's the case to Antec but if you buy the Chieftec version you'll probably save enough to buy the matching mouse and keyboard...comes in black, blue, yellow, green, silver, rust and I am sure I am forgetting 1 or 2. A tri color Antec fan mounted in the window wins cool 0oints w/ my son.

Actually a Tiawanese company by the name of UNEEC (use to be Chenming) makes them in China and ships them to resellers to suit specs and styles accordingly (all other brand names for these cases are those of the resellers of which there is well over a dozen worldwide). ;)

"Original Equipment Manufacture" are basically the "No frills" packing of a product with limited warranty and extras (if any extras at all) which are basically meant for those who assemble PC's on a reasonable scale. :)

OEM is "Original Equipment Manufacturer". I'll have to disagree with the "no frills" designation as an "across the board" label.

For example over here in the US, there's a high end kitchen appliance company called Viking, very well known for their commercial type stoves. Refridgerators are a whole new thing for them so, when breaking into a new market it doesn't make $$ sense to start up a whole new production line.

So Viking contracted w/ KitchenAid to make the Viking Fridge. Viking named the parts spec using most of the parts that KA uses but some parts were spec'd that were a bit more expensive than what KA includes in "their" line. So the Viking has different skins and a different compressor unit and a few other premium parts and NO thru-the-door stuff as their research determined that over 50% of warranty claims were for that stuff and they offer a longer warranty than KA does.....but KA still builds the machine top to bottom.

In the automotive world a lot of electrical parts are made by Bosch but sold under different labels.

In the PC case world, Chieftec or whomever supplies the cases (w/window) in "plain brown wrappers"....the selling vendor may add fans, power supplies or whatever to "the pacakge". Chieftec also provides color matched keyboards and mice and joints like alienware.com (they also buy cases from Chieftec) will even match monitors, speakers and stuff.

You can see all of 'em over at:

I am not sure who is the manufacturer and who are the distributors as these same cases aree available ffrom at leasta dozen sources with different names and over 30 different PC suppliers.

Chieftec's site makes the claim of being the "manufacturer". Chenming, Koolance, Antec, Wavesonic, Maxpoint and others are silent on the subject.

I have seen quite a few cases reviews emphatically claiming that Antec, Chieftec, etc are all made by Chenming....I have seen a bunch more saying they are made by Chieftec. One highlights the fact that certain parts have the word "chieftec" stamped right on them.

Another one was marked on the box as Chenming but again had Chieftec stamped on the metal inside:

"The case we are reviewing is marked as a Chenming case, but each part has Chieftec stamped on them."

OTOH, if you go to this site,

you'll see Chenming listed as a primary OEM supplier......but....if you click on the 601CT it takes you to a Chieftec logo'd page....click on any other case no. on the chenming page and it takes you to another chenming labeled page. So in the end, I don't know who makes what....if I had to guess I'd say the Chenming is a huge OEM supplier who outsources a lot of their stuff to Chieftec ... but it could just as easily, from my searched anyway, be the other way around....

The metal stamping of the name "Chieftec" on the parts though has me leaning towards Chieftec doing the manufacturing or at least Chieftec is comparable to Viking ..... and Chenming to KA in the kitchen appliance analogy....that is Chenming is building a "cheiftec version" of a chenming case, specifically for them.

But, you know what, it really doesn't matter a slonga s you are getting all the features you want. I do notice however that the chieftec / Antec cases (full windows, front USB/firewire) have several features not available on on the Chenming....at least they are not shown on the Chenming web site.

Again that could just mean that Chieftec stipulated a different parts spec, as Viking does with KA for the fridges,.....it could also mean Chenming is too darn busy making cases and hasn't upgraded their web site.

                      Jack

Cheiftec was UNEEC's first reseller which may answer somethings for ya. Up to a year or so ago here no matter which brand ya got it came in a Chenming box (before the name change to UNEEC) straight from China but now most other brands arrive in their branded box. The link is in my last post so follow it up and you'll be surprised just how many Name brands are just resellers and don't actually manufacture a thing themselves. ;)
