From the standpoint of a significant increase in performance is it worth the upgrade? My thinking is no and that I should wait for the next generation of CPUs which hopefully will be based on a smaller die.

I would wait. I actually purchased a 9900k but was able to return it when I learned the 10900k would be coming out in a couple weeks. Unfortunately I had sold my 9700k system in the meantime and needed to get a CPU ASAP on release day and only 10700k was available. So pretty much ended up with a 9900k anyways, just for about 100$ cheaper lol. The next gen is supposed to be PCIE 4.0 compatible as well. Really you're only looking at very small percentage of performance increase and even then it's mostly in multi-threaded applications. Also, unless you have a custom water loop do not expect to hold the advertised 5.3 thermal velocity boost clocks 24/7 on all cores. I have custom water loop on my 10700k and only hold 5.0ghz all core at 1.32v, but I also have a 2080ti on the loop and only 2x 360mm thin radiators.

I thought as much. I run at 5.1 Ghz on all cores and manage to keep the temps down. Thanks for the response

Very nice, for whatever reason I have pretty bad luck since my 8700k, the 9900k had a hard time even with 5.0ghz, my 10700k is fine with 5ghz but @ 1.32 v seems a little high to me. Oh well luck of the draw. Hopefully they'll have direct-die gets soon so I can slosh (errr, carefully apply) some liquid metal on it. Good luck sir streetwolf.
