  • Old mainboard G31MX-S2 Bricked - help

Hi, after failed upgrade of the bios (f5i beta) I tried in all the ways indicated on the forum, without success.
    I only get the message:

    Award Boot Block BIOS V1.0

Scanning BIOS Image in Hard Drive

    stopped at ....

I see an attempt to read from cd, but without success.
Does anyone know how to prepare the cd so that it is read?
Excuse my English, but I use the Google translator
    Thanks in advance

    What about USB activity?
Would be easier to create USB drive with BIOS file on its root.

Thank you for the answer. I read all your posts on the forum
I tried with a fat and fat32 usb pen, with the file g31mxs2.f4 inserted in all the 6 usb ports present (front and rear )
It doesn't seem to be read
The only activity is, for a few seconds, the cd ide reader.
I have read that maybe you need a sata reader. But I don't have it.
I am almost decided to throw it away but with regret.
      Thanks anyway for the suggestion.

Do you have the board original CD ROM?
I had an ASUS board which failed to flash BIOS and I recall I recovered it using it's CD ROM.
Other choice is to fined a computer repair shop with EPROM programmer, maybe they can even program it on-board, or replace it.

I thank you for the answer.
I have the original cd and also the downloaded one (Xpress Recovery2)
I also prepared a CD with only the bios g31mx-s2.f4 and one with all bios
I have prepared a fat32 formatted hd disk, with all bios
The usual message remains, but does not read anything.

I'm afraid it's going to be scrapped
Maybe it's the chip that doesn't work

Thank you again for your time.

          Hello :)

I asked for help from the Gigabyte customer service and after only 2 days they proposed me the procedure to cancel the cmos, telling me that if it doesn't work I have to contact a technician to reprogram the chip.
I think there is no other possibility
Thank you for your time (especially Chike :))

              chip code for g31mx-s2

I purchased the usb kit with the pliers to try to reprogram the chip.
Does anyone know the technical data of the chip on the mainboard?
              (model code - 1.80v or 3v voltage?)

I don't seem to read any names

              Thanks in advance
