  • When is a RX570 not a RX570?

    Hi,

I have 2 cards (mining), both RX570, when I look up the timings in PBE, the timings are 1:200, 1:400 etc 2:400 etc
However the other one is 0:250 etc
This 2nd one is the same as my RX470 timings
    Looks like I've got a 470 rebranded as a 570?

    Anyone noticed this?

Is there anyway to check, other than using the BIOS editor?

Maybe Gpu-z will tell the truth, assuming that both bios versions are NOT modded....

      Thanks, GPU-Z say both RX570's

Both BIOS's are modded now, but I don't see why that makes a difference, here I've posted the original BIOS' from both cards

          You're welcome.

I mentioned unmodded because it is probably possible for for someone to make gpu bios changes that describe information such as model number, vendor name/id, etc. I would believe the information in the original bios versions for both video cards.

What I posted are the originals, but the straps are different, weird huh?

Also, in Afterburner, the settings for the suspect 570 are identical to the 470 and different to the other 570.

Do you know if you can flash a 570 with a 470 BIOS?

              Re: When is a RX570 not a RX570?

I think that your best bet is to contact the manufacturer of the suspect RX 570 card and see if it's possible that they somehow made a mistake. Do both of your RX 570 cards have the same model names/numbers? Did you buy both cards at the same time? It looks like the RX 5xx cards have minor upgrades and/or tweaks over the RX 4xx cards. It's possible that there are also differences with memory chips and/or other components and that these differences might cause problems with power usage if you flash with a newer bios. From what I've read it sounds like the newer 5xx RX cards have minor enhancements that provide a modest performance boost when gaming.

I have an early Sapphire Nitro+ RX 480 OC 4GB video card that actually has 8GB of memory, but my card has the lower 7000 MHz memory, not the better quality Samsung 8000 MHz memory. My video card probably has a gpu that is somewhat lower binned than the "real" RX 480 8GB Nitro+ OC model's gpu.

I did a google search using: rx 580 bios for rx 480
and the search results include links to some RX 470 and RX 570 cards.

I'm not a gamer or a miner and I don't have first hand experience with bios modding.

It sounds like there might be a lot or risk for very little gain if you flash with a 5xx bios and you have 4xx hardware.
TechPowerUp has an extensive gpu database and it might help if you check out their list of RX 570 and 470 bioses.
