Re: GA-EP45-UD3P v1.6 running memory at 800 instead of 1060

After the intial freeze with no dump I am getting now crashes with dmp files. Some of crashes happened when the PC was idle.

On Sat 3/26/2016 5:18:58 AM GMT your computer crashed
    crash dump file: C:\Windows\Minidump\032616-12168-01.dmp
This was probably caused by the following module: win32k.sys (win32k+0xCCDAD)
    Bugcheck code: 0x3B (0xC0000005, 0xFFFFF9600015CDAD, 0xFFFFF8800AEC8050, 0x0)
    Error: SYSTEM_SERVICE_EXCEPTION
    file path: C:\Windows\system32\win32k.sys
    product:
    company: Microsoft Corporation
    description: Multi-User Win32 Driver
Bug check description: This indicates that an exception happened while executing a routine that transitions from non-privileged code to privileged code.
This appears to be a typical software driver bug and is not likely to be caused by a hardware problem.
The crash took place in a standard Microsoft module. Your system configuration may be incorrect. Possibly this problem is caused by another driver on your system that cannot be identified at this time.

Re: GA-EP45-UD3P v1.6 running memory at 800 instead of 1060

It looks like all three BSOD's are related to the graphics card driver.

Have you or windows update recently installed a newer version of the graphics driver?
Have you made any other recent hardware or software changes to your system?
Sometimes the latest graphics driver version doesn't work well.

You did not include the brand and model of your AMD graphics card in your PC Specs.
It is always best to fill in all of the items in PC Specs.

Your ET6 voltages show that your DRAM voltage is set to 1.90 volts.
With 4 x 2GB of 1066MHz memory you probably need 2.00 volts or slightly higher.
Also try setting MCH Core voltage to 1.20 volts, but if your system has trouble booting, reset this to AUTO or 1.10 volts.
I don't recall if your version 1.6 motherboard allows MCH Core settings higher than 1.10 and lower than 1.20 volts.

Re: GA-EP45-UD3P v1.6 running memory at 800 instead of 1060

I updated my profile, the video card is: HIS Radeon HD 6570

I double-checked the BIOS for the DRAM voltage. BIOS has 2.0V configured. ET6 shows power-up voltage at 1.8V and target at 2.0V. So, is the Mobo not taking 2.0V
(BTW., why not going to 2.2V?)

I have made several changes to system.
        - Starting with the need for a new drive due a drive dying. Cloning to a Samsung SSD
        - figured that the TV recording drive also starting to have some bad blocks, figured since I have the box open I change the WDC Green 1TB to a WDC red 3TB
        - also installed a new BD drive
        - and of course adding 4GB of the same RAM which triggered this thread.

And yes, I did update the AMD driver to the latest. Frankly, I don't know what I had last.

Re: GA-EP45-UD3P v1.6 running memory at 800 instead of 1060

The problem with NOT uploading images in a post is that it's easy to overlook an updated image.
You provided http://forums.tweaktown.com/attachme...-a-voltage-pdf in post #6 about a week ago and the screenshot shows that the Power On (default) voltage is 1.80 volts and the ET6 Target DRAM voltage is 1.90 volts . The ET6 Power On voltage is not important and the Target voltage is the applied or working voltage.

Why not 2.20 volts for memory? Because more is not always better and the goal with bios voltages is to use the lowest voltage that gives you stability. You're free to try more than 2.00 volts for your memory, but keep in mind that each voltage increment is 0.02 volts higher or lower and that there are 50 different settings if you want to go higher or lower by 1/10 of a volt. Higher voltage settings equals more heat and shorter component life. If any voltage settings are too low, your system will not be stable.

How long did you use the previous AMD video driver. A ballpark estimate should help you determine which older driver version you used by looking at the release dates for the older drivers. The only other option is to keep trying different older driver versions. Most newer video drivers have improvements and gaming enhancements for current video card models and slightly older models. I never let Windows Update automatically update non-windows drivers.

I will try 2.1V and see if it makes a difference. I might also go back to the default RAM settings as a test.

I am currently using driver 15.20 which appears to be the latest one, despite its date from 08/2015.
My guess is that I used the previous drivers for several years. I tend not to update drivers without reason on this MediaCenter PC setup.

I have been running for about 5 days at 2.1V, so far no more crashes.

Re: GA-EP45-UD3P v1.6 running memory at 800 instead of 1060

Is your memory speed still running at 1066MHz with the 2.10 memory voltage?
Did you make any other changes?
Are you still using the "newest" 15.20 AMD video card software and drivers?

I'm glad to hear that you haven't had any recent system crashes, BSOD's or lockups.

An excellent real world memory stress test is to create a single huge zip archive of a very large folder, 10 GB (or more) of miscellaneous files. After the zip archive is created, test the archive's integrity using the zip program. An additional useful test is to unzip all the files in the archive to a temporary folder. You shouldn't have any errors while zipping files, testing the file integrity of the archived files and unzipping all of the files.

When I do this test I use all the files in the My Documents folder to create the single huge zip file archive. I have one disk partition for all of my temporary files and the unzipped files from the huge zip archive go into a temporary folder which is in the temporary file disk partition .

Yes, still running at 1066. I made no other changes. Also, did not change the AMD driver.
