Re: Z97M - D3H 1.0 F5 BIOS starts PC with i7-4790k @4.6ghzterribly slow even with Super Fast Boot up

What do you see on your monitor while you are waiting for Windows 7 to boot? That is, what is displayed for the longest time before Windows starts?

The Windows 7 start up graphic, where the parts of a window come together and then pulsate? Or something else?

Are you past POST? Does the PC do the single POST beep that means POST completed, and then the long wait?

Your OS drive is a Crucial M500 SSD, so it should boot quickly. What does the reference to"with Super Fast Boot up" mean?

Has the PC always done this, or is this new behavior?

For a test, I'd remove power from all the drives on the system except the OS drive and see how it boots.

If that does not make a difference, you may have a corrupted Windows installation, or even just the SATA cable on the OS drive is flaky.

Re: Z97M - D3H 1.0 F5 BIOS starts PC with i7-4790k @4.6ghzterribly slow even with Super Fast Boot up

Finally I found someone with the same issue!

Since I upgraded my PC (for specs see my profile), my new Mainboard (Z97M-D3H) is suffering from a cold-start-bug.
It boots up, but windows and games are running really slow.
Also loading Games takes much longer when this issue occurs.
After an immediate reboot everything runs fine again.

I tried everything possible, but to no avail.
(e.g. changing cables, removing unnecessary drives, ram, cpu underclock, disabling/enabling BIOS settings)
Except for my drives and Keyboard/Mouse, every part is new with a fresh Windows setup.

Seeing someone with this issue gives me hope that this might be fixed by a BIOS-update.

After testing Beta Bios F6j since it was released, I can say that sometimes everything works with no issues.
Then again, today it took me 5 reboots to get my Windows working correctly.
It also showed the same behaviour as pectin232 described:
Took over 2 minutes to boot. Usually it takes less than 20 seconds.
This never happened on F5, so there might be something different with the F6j Beta Bios.

When F6j got released, there were also BIOS Updates for a lot of Gigabyte x99 chipset Board
which explicitly stated that they fix a cold-start problem.

Fingers crossed that Gigabyte knows about this and is working on a solution.

I still have this problem even with F6j or whatever. I am going to reformat and install windows 8.1 instead of 7. Did you have yours as 7 or 8.1? Let me know. I hope it is just a bios issue. What memory do you have. I am going to try using the vengence 2400ddr3 again tonight

                      Try setting PCI-E Speed to Gen 2 (PCI-E 2.0).
                      This fixed all my issues!
Speed wise, I don't see any difference.
Hope this can be fixed through a BIOS-Update.

I did not read this... but does this mobo z97m d3h has the PCIE 2.0 or 3.0? Could it also be the Fj? SO far I think it is a little more stable but when I click on some of my hard drives (internal) I get sort of a 'wait' till it shows up.. I am wondering if it is the Intel Series 9 IDE drivers that are not working so well.
