I have the GA-Z97X-UD5H and have also got the Plextor M.2 SSD PCIe plugged in and running in my Windows 8.1 Pro 64 bitsystem. Check here: Plextor M.2 PCIe SSD where I have written a small review.

It works OOTB, with no noticeable heat issues (but I do have a large case and good airflow) and it is definitely faster than a standard SATA SSD.

Absic, thanks kindly for the info.

Did you have to c ange anything in the Bios settings, or was the m.2. ssd directly recognised?

      rgds.

Didn't have to change anything in BIOS from default settings. In fact, I did try changing the SATA Express SRIS Capabilities from Disabled to Enabled as I thought I would need to do this, but it made things worse when it came to Read/Write speeds for the Plextor M.2. In all other respects the M.2 was seen as an ordinary drive and Windows 8.1 Pro 64 bit installed without the need for additional drivers. Should mention I left the SATA Controller in AHCI Mode not RAID when I installed the OS.
