    the epilogue (or not?):

if you exclude the restart problem, i am perfectly stable (~9 hours prime95 small FFT and ~9hours memtest86 7.2) at 3.6Ghz with 400fsb and ram's at 800mhz and the "slow timings" set in bios. temps dont go higher than 62c.
all voltages are at the "stock-standard" except Vcore that that is at 1.2v (the cpu has a VID of 1.18750) and the north bridge at 1.22v.
there is a possibility that lower voltage is enough (maybe even the VID voltage), but i will test that another time.

do you know how i can get more than 3.6ghz maintaining the 800mhz speed on the rams? or i am limited at that?

      To summarize:
      • FSB X cpu multiplier = cpu speed
      • FSB X memory multiplier = memory speed

Your maximum cpu multiplier is 9x
The minimum memory multiplier is 2.00x

      You are limited to 3.60GHz (400 x 9.0) maximum when your memory speed can't go higher than 800MHz (400 x 2.00).

Both of my systems have EIST and all C-states enabled and I use a Balanced power profile in windows.
With my Q9550 (3.825GHz) and Q9650 (4.050GHz) systems, I have LLC (load line calibration) disabled and the cpu vcore settings are in the 1.38 - 1.39 volt range.

You might find that my energy saving approach is harder to get stable when you have an overclocked system.
SSD speeds might be somewhat faster when EIST and C-states are all disabled, but with P35 and P45 this is probably not an issue.

hello, i found the solution and i wanted to share it with everyone that maybe has the same problem as me.

all i had to do is change "AI Clock Twister" from "Auto" to "Strong".

it seems the Auto option was using the Stronger option (i know this cause when i used it, it failed to boot into windows as usual with 1.10 NB volt).

after that i was able to use the normal NB volt at 1.10.
also i dont have to deal with the "restart problem" i had.

run memtest86 7.4 and prime95 smallfft and everything is stable!!!!

i cant believe i was that stupid and didnt try this setting...

We get too soon old and too late smart!!

Glad to hear that you solved the problem and that your system is OK now.

            Hy,

call me crazy - but i bought some used stuff to get an "retro" system ;)

i also want to share my thought / values with you.

            the system will be:

            Xeon X5460
            8GB DDR2 GEIL 800 MHz
            Asus P5Q Pro
            XFX HD 7970 Double Dissipation
            120GB SSD WD Green
            400 W be quiet! E9 Straight Power

later on i want to plug some harddrives into the system as "wake on LAN NAS" ... so only ON if needed.

i have also a new Ryzen System - but i want something to screw on it xD

on the weekend i will check mit values in BIOS to hopefully get something improved :)

how far could i get with OC on CPU / RAM ? just round about ;)

i just shortly checked to OC to 4,0 GHz the CPU - with no Problems in Cinebench CB20

Edgy psu, the gpu is rated 250w tdp, and the cpu at stock rated 120w tdp.
Probably the ram will be limiting, my guess between 4.2ghz if you're unlucky, 4.5ghz if you're lucky.

                Hy,

                thanks for the fast response.

I will check how much power the the system will need.
Undervolting for the GPU is planned.

Short Test and Flash of a XFX Radeon R9 280X DD Black Edition BIOS ... but mostly - Undervolting and "energy saving"

If it might be the case that it is "edgy" - i will stick a Sapphire Radeon HD 6850 (127W) into the system ;)

                To Do:

                OC Test
measure some Power Benchmark & Games
                right down the BIOS Settings

                anything else ? :)

                have a nice weekend

You can save oc profiles under tools menu.

                  anything else ? :)
                  OC more I guess.
See how high fsb the ram can take with lower cpu ratio.

Yes, though I see 2 x 1gb of that ram do 533mhz easy with only 1.8v, so maybe it will not be limiting after all.
