    Re: Gigabyte z77x up4 th & z77x up5 th Overclock/Settings Guide

i just did 4 runs in ibt/max stress with my 2600k and hit a max of 72c,thats with a d14 and two akasa apache fans,1100rpm usually

on my ivybridge im using a silver arrow cooler and one 140mm fan that comes with it,couldn't fit the other fan on as case isnt wide enough and hit 81 @4.8ghz,again its silent slow rpm fan

your temps are good considering the high overclock

that liquid pro supposed to be the best stuff at conducting heat as its liquid metal, the other pastes are slower at passing the heat through it

it depends and i felt the same way as you do,i just didnt wanna risk destroying my chip, but for 4.8ghz id be well over 100c without delidding,i just cut through one corner and actually cut a little trough the copper heatsink itself then i did the rest with a thin plastic spreader and it cut through the sealer like butter, literally took 20 seconds once id cut one corner

Hi boon thats a big drop in temps for you nice! (positive) Grammer really... thats all you got. I personally don't care what you do with your equipment including sticking it where the sun doesn't shine. I said good luck if you do and to each their own.... (positive)

Anyway, aside from the "youve lost that lovin feeling"
This "liquid"pro..or similar for normal cooler heatsink(assuming its not aluminium) to die lid contact:
1.Is it easy to remove like the normal pastes?, its not like I dunno, epoxy glue cured with heat is it?
              2. can you apply it using the "pea" or "strip of spaghetti" methods or do you have to smear it on?
3.Does it invalidate your cpu guarantee?
              4.Wots it cost(W Europe)
5.that 72c Waz,was that at 4.8 and what v was running thru it?

Right ..ta.ill go compare see if its worth the stripdown (groan)

nb due to mb fan constraints the speed of the fans varies up to about 1500 in testing

its fine, remember the max my fans run at is roughly 1100 rpm,so its very quiet

So heres settings for 4.8ghz,All power saving was left enabled and didn't affect stability in any way, remember each cpu will be different in how much voltage is needed to be fully stable but the settings in this thread are a good starting point for any gigabyte z77

What's your highest vcore under load with those settings?
Gonna try for 5.0? I think for my chip I'd have to go over 1.5v to get there and I don't think I'm going to do that. Temps would be OK but that's a lot of voltage.

The Coolaboratory TIM's are gallium based according to their MSDS, btw. I just went with the Pro under the IHS but some people are using the Ultra with good results. Actually the Ultra has a better heat dispersion rating.

You got a better cpu than mine. Took me about 1.41 to get stable at 4.8. When I tried 1.380 it would crash something every time. Takes 1.5v for 4.9 and I didn't want to push the voltage any higher to try for 5.0. Some say you can go 1.55v briefly and some say 1.50 but I don't want to go higher.

Right now I'm running 4.6 24/7 with .030 offset and it will creep up to 1.308v stress testing, but it's stable. Idle it's about 1.044v which is the lowest it will go with more recent bios regardless of clock speed setting. I always keep all the C states on Auto.

Maybe I will delid the other 3770K some day and try it out, but it likes a lot of voltage too. I haven't found delidding to help with voltage, only with temperatures but the temperature decrease alone made it worthwhile. It was so easy to do, I don't know how people screw it up if they are careful but like everything "stuff" happens I guess.

for me anything below 1.4v is safe for 24/7 use, theres no real point pushing further as it usually needs a huge voltage bump for 5ghz,and yeah the lower temps make it all worthwhile, the key is to use a plastic cutter or cut down lid, that doesnt cut the pcb like a metal blade would

heres the tools i used to delid,i just cut one corner of the heatsink rocking the blade back n forth and tilting the blade up and away from the pcb, once it cut through i used a cut down plastic lid from a take away meal and inserted it into the cut i made, with a firm push round it cut the sealer very easy and isnt sharp enough to nick or cut the cpu's pcb
