  • Re: GIGABYTE Modified Bios

looks like something went wrong for me :/

i flashed today the "ga-ep45-ds3r_f11e_MOD_5_10_12" and now the pc is booting, and after 1-2 sec he reboots again then he boots longer. but the screen remains all the time black :/

i cleared the cmos, removed all drivers and the 2nd ram -> just the ati hd5450 remains + 1x 2gb ram in slot 1 and i still get no screen.

    any idears?

is there a way to force the backup bios to replace or current?
or can i remove the bios chip, boot and then flash it back somehow ?

      BIOS Auto-Recovery:
It is possible to make the BIOS Auto-Recovery kick in (Dual BIOS) and re-flash the MAIN BIOS with the contents of the BACKUP BIOS.

This is a simple and easy method for anyone to try before having to resort to other more difficult methods, or a RMA.

      1. Shut off the power supply using the switch on the back of the PSU, wait 10-15 seconds.
      2. Press and hold the case Power On swtich, then while still holding turn on the power supply from the switch on the rear.
      3. Still holding the case power on switch, the board will start, once it does release the case power on switch and shut off the power supply via the switch on the read of the unit.
(Do the latter two parts as quickly as you can once the board starts)
      4. The board will shut down.
      5. Turn the power supply back on using the switch on the rear of the unit.
      6. Turn on the motherboard by pressing the case power on button.

Once the board starts this time you should see the Gigabyte splash screen, or POST page, then the Auto-Recovery from Dual BIOS will kick in.
You will see a checksum error, and then recovery from BACKUP BIOS will begin. Once it is done reboot your machine and enter the BIOS and load optimized defaults then save/apply/reboot back to BIOS.

        Hi.

Just purched a 120GB Sandisk Extreme SSD (111GB actually ) for my EP45-DS3R (F11e, official) and after a few tests, and f/w update, realized it likes AHCI over IDE. Way more. Problem is, in IDE access mode the POST sequence is rather speedy, in AHCI it plain isn't. Depending on how long it spends "Verifying DMI Pool Data................................." it can take twice as long. Not to mention the additional POST screen. As things stand the SSD+AHCI fully boots (CPU idling in the desktop) only a few seconds quicker than the HDD+IDE I had. But only because of the POST delays. Windows itself loads in a blink.

My question: Any of this modded BIOS, with the updated AHCI/RAID ROM, address this? Even the DMI verification excruciating pause?

If so, which one would you recommend? I really don't want to test "a few" BIOSes, just for the kick of it. A couple, yes. Also, if things go wrong, you recommend the above procedure over the "ALT+F12" one?

Finally, can I suggest adding a hash value of the BIOS image alone on your next mods posts. Just for our peace of mind in case the archive/extraction gets corrupted.

        Thank you.

(edit: Is there a way of knowing the backup BIOS version? And to change it, up or down?)

            Hi,
Does the "rtegrom.lom" found in realtek's "Realtek LAN ROM 2.47" need to be modified in any way to work with GA-P55-UD5 as a compare to "Gigabyte_GA-P55-UD3L_(Rev1.1-2.0)_Fi_ORoms.rar / rteg247.lom" shows a different byte count and diff?

I have already created my own mod to the f11c ROM with "Intel RAID ROM 11.5.0.1347" and "JMicron RAID ROM: 1.07.28" extracted from the already moded P55-UD6 BIOS and have tested and work as far as i can tell.

This is more of an exercise in that I can rather than because I need to.

            Thanks.

No you should not need to modify the Lan Rom in any way to get it into your bios. it should be no different then the Intel Raid ROM.

^ The Realtek PXE I used is simply the v2.47 rtegpxe.lom renamed to rteg247.lom.
See attached pic, they have the EXACT same Hashes.

                        Hi
Would it be possible to make a modded BIOS for EX-58 Extreme using the latest beta BIOS F13u. If possible to include the latest LAN/RAID/Marvell ROMS.
I can upload the standerd BIOSD if required.
                        Many thanks if you can

You might need to use FlashSPI or possibly SPIFlash from DOS to downgrade the BIOS if you need to.

You should be fine with q-flash. I have never needed to use any thing but q-flash for any flashing on p45-x58. Only time I needed to use SPIflash I think is when I cross flashed my EX58-UD5 to a EX58-Extreme. And You need to use @bios to flash to or from a 1mb bios to a 2mb bios but this was on X58A boards.
