  • Need help diagnosing problem

I have a X58A-UD7 motherboard and two GTX 480 cards in SLI.

I made the mistake of not unplugging my power supply when I moved the position of one of my video cards. It touched the motherboard, and I think I saw a spark. Now, when I power up my PC all the fans spin, but the monitor remains blank. The LEDs on the motherboard remain all lit up, which is unusual as this only usually lasts a couple of seconds at the beginning of the boot sequence.

Is the motherboard broken? Is there anything I can do to fix this problem?

    Thanks!

Have you tried booting directly into bios (hitting delete key) when starting? Do you have a motherboard speaker? If so do you hear any beeps when powering on?

Have you tried with only one graphics card (the one that didn't arc)? Maybe you didn't fry the motherboard but the video card?

So I'm pretty certain its just the motherboard that is fried.

Neither of the two cards work by themselves in any of the PCI slots. I am unable to enter the BIOS, as nothing actually boots up.

Thanks for the help, I just ordered a new motherboard.

Removing your CMOS battery isn't going to fix this one I don't think. Do you get any POST beeps now, or just silence? Assuming you get nothing, the board is the most likely culprit.
