  • EX58 UD4-P 2000mhz ram Settings

    Hi there;
    My ring is:
    CPU:INTEL Core i7-980X
    Motherboard:EX58 UD4-P rev.1
    BIOS:F13
    RAM:CORSAIR DOMINATOR GT CL8 2000MHZ 3x 2gb.

I'm using my ram @1600mhz. without any problem and very stable with the settings below. When i use XMP profile,pc boots but after 5-6 hours using it freezes. After freezing bios is reset it self and bios year goes to 2009 etc.But with setting below it is very stable and i've no problem.
I certainly don't want to overclock my cpu.I want cpu run at 3.33 and run ram at 2000mhz mhz. What must i do?Thank you..

    Re: EX58 UD4-P 2000mhz ram Settings

i dont know how the 980x chip works according to voltages, but ill give you a rough guide i dont think it will need as much as a 920 chip as its 32nm,set BCLK Frequency (MHz) .....................133<-- change to give you 3.33ghz
System Memory Multiplier (SPD) ........ [AUTO]<--- manual set to give you 2000mhz ram speed
CPU Vcore ...............................[AUTO]<--- set to normal voltage setting
    QPI/VTT Voltage 1.150v ............[AUTO]<--- set to 1.32000v for now

try those everything else can be left as is for now,

if you want to use as close to 2000mhz as you can its best to clock to 3.575ghz 143x25 bclk ,then you can use a 14x ram multiplier to give you 2030mhz ram speed, keep all voltages the same as above,or try 3.5ghz 140x25bclk and 14x ram multi=1960mhz ram speed

        My current settings

So, your target for the moment being is to run your system at 3.325 GHz = 133 MHz* 25

then, your memory multiplier should be 14 and your ram will be clocked at 1862 MHz, about 7 % below maximum clock spec rate. Note that you will not lose that much overall performance, because of the memory architecture, caches, etc.

For this clock rate you will not need to over-volt the CPU V core, you may leave it at default.

The recommendation is to set :

        DRAM Voltage to 1.60 V
        QPI Voltage to 1.2 V

and also Enable both: C1E and C3/C6/C7

Also, you may want to monitor the core temperatures, and see that the system is not shutting down because of poor heat sinking.

for a slightly more ambitious goals, see this thread in Anand Tech:

        good luck !

          Re: EX58 UD4-P 2000mhz ram Settings

2000Mhz for 24/7 use on X58 is not ideal, you will need to use much more QPI/Vtt voltage than you should want to in order to run stable 24/7. You would need 1.4-1.55+ QPI/Vtt, memory voltage to 1.66-1.7 (Higher Vdimm may allow lower QPI/Vtt), and uncore multi of 30-32 (if using 133 Bclk with 15 ram multi)

I can advise you on settings for this, but I would not use them for daily use. If you want my suggested settings for 2000Mhz let me know.

For now I can say you are using fail safe BIOS settings as a starting point, this is not good at all. You need to start with Optimized Defaults, save/apply/reboot BACK to the BIOS and set your SATA/Disk settings again and then any other changes you wish to make.

This is not what is stopping you from running 2000Mhz, but is probably part of what is stopping you from trying.

I do see several other settings above that are also not near enough to run 2000Mhz as well, so this is not the whole issue but I do advise you start over with Optimized Defaults for sure!

            Re: EX58 UD4-P 2000mhz ram Settings

wazza300,i tried your settings ,there is not any freezing for now, thank you for your suggestion.I'll try these next 3 or 4 days.

JureZ ,Thank you for your suggestion, the temps. are really go lower and there is not any issue.I'm thinking use these voltages,7/24 if there won't be any issue.

            Thank you
If you give your suggested settings ,I'll be happy.Sure i won't use 24/7.Only i want to learn true stable settings for 2000 mhz.I'm looking forward to receive them.

              Re: EX58 UD4-P 2000mhz ram Settings

Did you load optimized yet, and start over with your same settings? Please do if you have not already!

You may be ok with 2000Mhz, I forgot 980X can use a lower Uncore value which can help, but it could also hinder things as well? Let me know what CPU speed you want to run and I will give you a full set of settings to try once you have loaded optimized defaults.

Try any new settings as of yet? If so, or not, give me your current settings and I will advise back on what you can try to run 2000Mhz
